Our visit to Ski Santa Fe was what we’d hoped for. Renting equipment went smoothly, the lifts were well run and there were a lot of great runs for multiple skill levels. We skied on a Tuesday and Wednesday. We had learned from TripAdvisor reviews to arrive early. We arrived right at 8 the first day and were among the first in line for rentals. We were also able to park close enough that we could leave our lunch in the car and only rented a locker for shoes. It was good to know that once you open your locker you cannot use it again without paying an additional $2. At one point, my son was frustrated after several falls. Ski patrol stopped to check on him. “Wheels” was very kind and helped turn his day around. Overall great experience and I hope we’ll be back!!

Do not put your kids in the chipmunk ski school. Teachers are incredibly rude to the children. Left my child laying in the snow for minutes on end after a fall, completely ignore them, etc. it would be hard to find a worse experience for your child.

It is a very good mountain to ski for beginners, prices are reasonable and it's close to Santa Fe.
Rental store and lift tickets open at 8 am and the lifts at 930 am. During peak season it can take you more than an hour to rent equipment there, so the best is to arrive super early or rent them one day before in the afternoon, or someplace else.
I am giving it 3 stars instead of five, because we contracted a ski lesson with myskilessons.com (the same as lessons.com, tennispro and other names), and we never got the instructor.

This is my husbands and I first time to ski here. We went on a Sunday, didn’t arrive to the top until about 915 and were spilling over into the third parking lot already. The tram was great, easy and effective. I’ve seen other reviews about traffic and parking but people should realize there is also parking along the mountain so no need to pull all the way into a parking lot if your group has the capacity to walk a little bit. No line to check in and rent ski equipment. Please note you have to use a token every time you want to open your locker so pack a lunch, pack backpack for your yeti water bottle so you don’t have to access your locker so much. I saw lots of people putting their backpacks and lunchboxes along a window in the main cafeteria at the bottom of the mountain. Many runs for all levels of skiers. The mid mountain bar and grill was super fun with a DJ. No problem to sit anywhere because people are ready to scarf some thing down and get back out on the mountain! I’ve heard lots of things about the blue bus, if you ride it up it is hard to find a ride back down because there are more people that want to go down than ride it up. Good luck! We will return and bring our 7-10 y/o kids next time!

I see everyone complaining about the traffic jam. I say, get up earlier. Seriously, Who starts skiing at 11 am? Lazy . And dont drive up the mountain with a 2 wheel drive and ruin my time

We knew it would be busy so we headed up the mountain at 8am. Traffic started at 845 and soon came to near halt 2 miles before the ski parking area. No cell service and stuck in a two lane road with 4 kids that had to use the restroom. We finally gave up at 10:30 when we had enough cell service to see the ski area parking was completely full and not letting anyone in until someone left. Very poor organization and we had prepaid for all our arrangements. Was easy enough to get refunds but it was 1130 before we were finally back in town after figuring out a way to turn around on that two lane road with a small trailer.
There could easily be better ways to manage this but they seem content to ruin hundreds of peoples day sitting in a line that will Never go anywhere for hours!

We really enjoyed Ski Santa Fe!!! It was perfect for young kids. Really close to our hotel, would highly recommend skiing this mountain. Definitely show up early!!! We showed up early like at 7:30, and we were still like 40th in line. By the time we got our rentals, the line was all the way to the parking lot.

I love this place. I, as an adult, learned to ski here, as well as my 3 year old. It's the perfect size to learn with wonderful runs, and I felt very safe here, both as a beginner, as well as safe with the quality of people who come here.
They have a large parking lot, a shuttle available, and a drop off spot near the front.
The teachers are very friendly, and I learned to ski immediately.

After a very unpleasant experience in overpriced and boring Angel Fire and Taos Ski Valley, we decided to check Santa Fe during Spring break and were very positively surprised. Even though there is no option to ski to door, it is so much nicer experience and ski lifts prices are more reasonable ( 60% less than Taos). There are many very interesting double diamond runs and really pleasant atmosphere. Just 30min from Santa Fe downtown, there are many nice old hotels with many places to eat and walk.

I was visiting Santa Fe and couldn’t time our day at Ski Santa Fe any better. Skied on Friday after a 3 day dump of 50”. The slopes are 40 min outside of Santa Fe. We arrived at 8:05 and the lifts started up a bit before 9. This is a bargain at $98 with tax for an adult ticket. The conditions were amazing. The lift lines very short (it was a Friday). We took so many runs and spent time eating and drinking at the mid mountain bar and grill. This was an epic day.

We're planning to ski over spring break (3/12-3/18). I'm getting worried about the lines. Is there a best day of the week to ski? Would you recommend renting skiis in town and if so, where?

Hi! I’ve gotten into the habit of skiing midweek to avoid the crowds. Sometimes up there you have to look for someone to ride the lift with on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday! Don’t pass on the Green Chile Stew at Totemoff’s (mid lodge), it’s really delicious!
I have my own gear, but my brother rents his gear at Ski Tech on St. Francis Rd. Really convenient and great service. Equipment seems in good shape and well cared for. He’s really happy renting from them. I’m sure the base lodge is ok, but always so slow and crowded.
Have a safe trip and enjoy Santa Fe!

How can we ensure that our minivan will safely traverse the mountain road between Santa Fe & the ski resort? Under what conditions would we need to consider modifications (snow chains?)

We had an AWD rental car and had no issue despite the fact it had snowed about 5” overnight. There was a plow already coming down when we were going up.
Some cars without AWD or 4WD had chains but I thought it was excessive.
If you drive slowly and carefully you should be fine but think it all depends on how much snow is around and your comfort level around snow…

It all depends on the amount of snow. Last year was so epic they turned people away. If you get there super early you should be fine if you are renting equipment there get there even earlier! They have these cattle trailers That carry you too The snow is ok this year but not epic like last year So it shouldn’t be as crowded as it was but again I stress if you get there early early everything should be fine and your visit will be much more enjoyable

I am not a weather person but usually if it cold they will make snow at that time of the year.
Last year was so amazing because we had so much snow.

Santa Fe is an amazing place, especially the old town and the plaza Square is magical at Christmas time. I've been up to the ski area and there really isn't much to do up there other than ski, snowboard and walk.
