This is a quick tour and priced appropriately for the experience. The plants are well maintained and the diversity is properly organized based on climate/region. There are some nice and unexpected water features within the exhibit that bring more to the botanical experience.

We made this a last minute stop and were very glad we did! Prior to going, I checked out their website and it said it encouraged patrons to purchase tickets online. I called prior to going on the day we went and they said that it was not necessary to purchase tickets prior to visiting. Also, my parents have a membership to a botanical garden in another state and they honored that membership! So, they did not have to pay admission. Shout out to Joyce at the front desk-she was so wonderful with answering my questions on the phone prior to our visit and was very patient with answering all of our questions when we arrived!
The collection of plants here was very unique! It includes a chocolate tree and carnivorous plants. Also, there were several water features with neat looking fish!

I the building was neat and the outside gardens were gorgeous. If you have time and enjoy plant life I’d say give it a try. If you don’t like plants it’s not a must see. We did get to see and smell the corpse flower, Monty Jr. which was interesting. So if you’re here in mid-July they actually have 3 corpse flowers and it might be a chance to see one!

These gardens were so beautiful! Each room had its own touch of whimsy. It’s pretty hot in some of the spaces, so be prepared. Food is allowed in, making it perfect for picnics. The staff were very accommodating and helpful. Made our trip to Buffalo!

My cousin and I seen Illuminate advertised for the Botanical Gardens after hours. We looked and the tickets weren't such a bad price so we decided to go. It was nothing I imagined it would be.
I thought it would be very bright neon colors and alot of color and pretty dark inside and that the walk ways would be lit up white so nobody tripped or fell, well there were neon lights but nowhere near how many I thought there would be they were very sparse around the gardens. I was so disappointed in the entire experience !!!
The cactus looked dead alot of them when the bulb part gets yellowish that means they are dying and they are getting mushy. They were spread out so far it looked very empty. Alot of the rooms just looked BLAH to me.
I was impressed with the orchid room although it wasn't very big but the orchids were amazing in both variety and color. I also thought it was neat that they still had quite a few pointsettas although they looked very pale in color. And I did like the one water fountain they had lit blue.
Would I recommend this Illuminate Exhibit ? NO............if you want to go here I would wait till Spring or Summer when I'm sure the plants inside are plentiful and the outside gardens are in bloom.
I was super disappointed and was sorry I spent the money to go in my opinion it wasn't worth it so I was glad we didn't spend more for the wine night or VIP experience !!! But you can judge for yourself

The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens was celebrating their Mum festival when I visited in early October. There were mums throughout the many glass rooms of the conservatory. Each room had a theme such as the Everglades and the Cacti rooms. Being fall, most of the flowering plants were passed their peak blooming season, but there was so much green foliage on display. I was impressed by the gigantic board leaf plants many of which spread their leaves from on high. I was there on a warm, sunny fall day, but it would be an ideal place to visit when the weather was overcast and chilly.

Loved the Victorian-style (Lord & Burnham designed) conservatory. The 67 ft tall Palm Dome was my favorite. Spent a pleasant hour walking the interior and exterior. Currently need e-tickets for admission. Parking is free. Site is frequently used for events.

These are beautiful gardens that are well laid out. Great in inclement weather. The variety was geat and well labeled.

The indoor houses have a wide variety of plants...tropical including orchids,ferns, cacti, herbs, ivy, bromeliads, bonsai and more. There are trees, water features, fish , a small Japanese tea house and an impressive large waterfall. The outdoor gardens are seasonal and were very colorful with fall flowers. There is a family garden and children's outdoor garden. More fun for children and adults is the monthly Scavenger Hunt. We found the gardens delightful. No visit is complete without browsing the gift shop. There are books, plants, gardening needs and unique things for children and adults.

This was a lovely experience with 12 greenhouses full of succulents, orchids, cool trees, and other fabulous flowers. The layout was okay, but within each greenhouse, we often found ourselves backtracking to see things - it would have been better if it was set up in sort of a one-way layout. The outdoor gardens were full of wildflowers and roses, but we were there in Sept, so it was hit or miss if things were blooming.
I'd recommend it as an option for something to do - particularly if, like us, you were killing a few hours before being able to check into your hotel. However, I wouldn't rate it as a must see.
