Finally was able to take the guided tour of the upper cliff dwellings. The guide was very informative. Talked about history, flora and fauna along the way. An easy pace on a lovely dirt trail that crosses different habitats making for an enjoyable hike up to the dwellings. One can hike down on ones own pace allowing one to either be all alone or with others. I was able to hook up with the lower dwellings as well to complete the picture. Got to see tarantula and a rather big javelina on the way down. Spectacular views, worth trying.

We did the walk up to the lower cliff dwelling. While you only get to see the one cliff dwelling, it is in a spectacular location. The hillside you hike up is spiked with Seguaro cacti and the dwelling has an amazing view of the mountains and the nearby lake. So there is a special feel to the place even though the ruin itself is minimal. Really nice picnic tables near the entrance where you can have lunch with an excellent view.

My son & I went to Tonto National Monument early because the trail to dwelling closes at noon, the trail up to dwelling was up hill with no shade it was tough but well worth it. It was quite interesting how they could build something like this with the tools that they had.

Steep hike, but worth the walk. The trail is steep but paved. It may not be for everyone. There are several stop points along the way. This cliffhouse you can actually go up and in to, unlike at Montezuma Castle or Well. One disappointment was that when I showed my 'weeklong' receipt from other NPs/NMs that was supposed to be valid for all other NPs/NMs I was told, "No, we don't accept that here." I didn't argue but was pretty disappointed and felt a bit ripped off and lied to. Not sure about all times in the year but they said that they closed the trail at noon during the summer months for safety purposes, so be aware and check with the office to see. It would be miserable to drive there expecting to hike and then be denied.

There are two walks to the cliff dwellings, the first one you can walk to by your self and is about 1 mile in length, the second one is a guided tour only. I walked the first one, also because of the time it takes and the temperature (94F) The walk is rather steep but doable. The cliff dwelling is not that big but interesting enough for a visit. When I was there, a ranger was present for explanation on what there was to see. When walking up and down you have great views towards the lake and hill side.

Our friends brought us here while we were visiting in Arizona. This was such a fun afternoon trip. The short half mile hike up to the cliff dwellings was a steep one with a 350 foot ascent. The whole trail is paved and has multiple switchbacks. Plenty of spots to take a break and soak in the scenery. We went the first week of April and the hillside was full of wildflowers. It was gorgeous! There are several types of cacti too: saguaro, ocotillo, cholla, etc. There is a docent at the top who can answer questions and talk about the history of the dwelling. We all enjoyed our visit, including my 14 year old son (that’s saying a lot lol). We were there around two hours and that included time for the visitors center, the hike up, chatting with the docent, and taking lots of photos. If you’re in the area I highly recommend a visit!

I stopped here while on a road trip with my husband and his dad. You can see the cliff dwellings from the parking lot, but we also hiked the path up to the lower cliff dwellings (there is a small entry fee for the path, I don't recall how much). The path gate closes at 4 PM, so keep that in mind if you plan on arriving later in the day. It's also quite steep, but is paved. We took frequent stops on our way up to catch our breath, which was ok because the scenery was beautiful, and they also include a number of info boards to read about the history of the dwellings. At the top, you can walk around quite a bit of the dwellings, with just a few sections fenced off for preservation. The staff at the top were very knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions. After we hiked back down, we briefly looked through the visitor center building, and they have a number of artifacts on display. I personally liked all of the pottery pieces. This is a great place to stop by if you're traveling through the area.

A small national monument down the highway from Roosevelt Lake. The grounds were pretty, and the wildflowers were in bloom. One of the cliff dwellings was visible from the Visitor's Center, and we observed that one from the parking lot. If one wishes, the trailhead leaves from inside the Visitor's Center, where you pay the entry fee. The trail is dirt and goes uphill from there. A national park pass covers the fee. There is no shade or water on the trail. We chose to see what we could see without going inside. Bring water, a hat, and good walking shoes. There is adequate parking and picnic ramadas. Restrooms are inside the Visitors Center.

Great ruins to visit and explore. The walk up is a Mike but quite the vertical climb up the switchbacks. Multiple benches are available and the wild flowers along the way we're beautiful. The park ranger at the runs was very helpful and informative. Your do get to explore the ruins and see the actual character as well. Wonderful place to visit in the morning while it is cool

Beautiful area with a moderate hike up to the lower ruins. It's a half mile up a steep grade but worth the effort to see ruins. Beautiful views of Roosevelt Lake and mountains.
