Kuhio Beach is picturesque, convenient, safe and a delightful place to spend the day. Although, why stop there when you can stay for the sunset?
This spot is typically super calm and is great for little kids and/or those with limited swimming ability. This is in part due to rectangular rock wall jettys that box in swimming areas and protect you from the surf break. It also has lifeguards during daytime hours, rinsing stations and small restrooms. If you want a little more adventure, there are gaps in the jetty where you can bypass the swimming area on your surfboard or paddle board to get out to the breaks
On the downside, Kuhio can get very crowded and there is limited space in the sand to spread out. The water can also get super shallow during low tide to the point where you practically need to lay down to fully submerge and cool off. Lastly, it’s off of a busy Kalākaua Ave which makes it a bit noisy with folks blasting music and revving engines while driving back and forth.
Worth the stop here regardless!

Beautiful sky, beautiful water! My daughter and I met people who were vacationing from all over the world! We had wonderful conversations with the other travelers, and we were truly in the most beautiful place in the world!

I've always wanted to surf Hawaii. Unfortunately, some locals are not welcoming. Just harassing (intimidate) and yell at you in the surf. Being an experienced surfer, they don't like to share. Even though the immature ones are few in numbers, others sit ideally by and laugh. If you want a great surf and happy people who welcome you, come to Australia. Thank you for recking my dream.

Great for families, especially little ones. Calm waters in the section with the breaker wall. Fun to watch the sunset here.

From the Twin Fin and our balcony, we looked out onto Kuhio beach in Waikiki. There is a nice walkway wall with a covered roof at end where you can take lovely pictures of the whole Waikiki area hotels and beach/water. The beach itself is not that big but the sand is nice and very clean. A rock wall in the ocean closes off a very good shallow swimming area from the ocean and waves. It was fun to swim here!

Last visit June 2018. My favorite Umbrella and Chair rental place on Kuhio beach right by the Lifeguard stand & bathrooms I know where going be bought out and may or may not be in business. Has anyone visited recently and know if they are still around?

When I was walking in the area, I wasn't planning to rent a chair and/or an umbrella so I really didn't pay any attention. I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

Renting umbrellas and beach chairs gets very expensive. Has anyone bought their own chairs/umbrella? Any rules regarding such? I was hoping ABC stores would have them available.

I bought a chair at Target in Honolulu for $17.00 and I had a normal sized umbrella I brought with me from home that worked ok and when I left, I left the chair at the Air B & B where I was staying.
