This was a great massage and the price was great too. My husband and I had a couples massage. Wendell was my masseur and he was great. He had a firm touch and checked in with me all along the way. We were able to book the same day, so that was an added plus. Highly recommend!

Noriko was amazing! Got a 2 hour combination massage ( shiatsu and relaxation) and it was the best! Cannot recommend enough.

My boyfriend got me a generous gift certificate to get a massage at this place. I have gotten massages and spa treatments around the world. and have never had an experience like this...
I picked the combination of Hot stone massage+foots crub+facial.
I will start with the positive note: My LMP Noriko was good. And she worked on the areas I told her I was needing.
That being said, the rest was uncomfortable, rude, and appalling!
When I went to book the massage, the woman at the front desk immediately showed me what they wanted to receive as a tip.
When I arrived for the massage, the guy at the front desk also did the same, as well as telling me about their sales tax addition.
I have never paid taxes on top of the rates to a treatment, but I can make allowances that it might just be a state thing. However, tips are not obligatory, and you don't definitely bully the client to pay whatever outrageous amount you decide. Tips are earned, and the client should choose first if they want to, and then how much they can give.
After the massage was done, I already could tell that they were going to try to get pushy about it. So I gave them the amount for the tax and a bit extra for a tip for Noriko. Not only they did not thank me or invite me back, the two women working the front desk after my massage just decided to sulk and ask me if I had my card. I told them that all I had was that cash I just gave them, and still smiled while feeling completely outraged..
They still wanted to continue when I simply told them: well, goodbye!
I would have come back to get another session with Noriko, but unfortunately, they took care of pushing a local client away. I have worked with people in different industries, and have worked customer service and retail. This is the worst I have seen!
But Noriko was good.

Sales Tax is required on all purchases in the state of Hawaii.
If you have paid for massages in Hawaii where tax was not asked for then most likely that venue was not reporting their income.
Waikiki is an international tourist destination. At least two nations from which visitors arrive, Australia and Japan, do not have any tipping at all. Hence our chart which shows an 18% gratuity for each massage.
You were not shown an obligatory amount. You were shown a sample of 18% should you desire to use that as a guide.
If someone does not want to tip at least 15% even for great service, they should say that prior to making an appointment. It's not unlikely that you'll be invited to give your business to another location. Therapists in my shop would prefer to wait for the next person for whom this is not an issue.
As an experiment, why not ask your next service providers, "hey, are you happy to work without a gratuity?"
I'm sorry that you felt uncomfortable.

I was supposed to have one massage for 90 minutes. I did have that massage and I don’t think my body has ever felt better then after that 90 minutes.
My first massage was on a Thursday I scheduled a second 90 minute massage for Sunday. Awesome. Both of the therapists I worked with had skills in doing deeper work. I wish both of those folks lived near Chicago!

I am 58 and this was the best deep tissue massage I have ever experienced. If you want a 5 plus star massage I highly recommend this company. First massage I’ve had where there was no talking and 100% relaxation. I will be back for another massage in May when I return to Hawaii.

My wife and I both had 90 minute massages. Both were very good however once the CAD exchange was added it became a very expensive massage. For USD it was priced right so I guess I can't blame the location with poor CAD exchange. Id use USD and pay cash next time.

On a whim, my girlfriend and I booked a couples massage and were immediately greeted with refreshments upon entering the massage center. The environment was mellow and relaxing with soothing music playing in the background. We were promptly introduced to our massage therapists, Matt and Sayaka and guided to our massage tables. Our massages were AMAZING! Care was taken to ask about areas that may need some extra attention and what level of pressure would be preferred. The hot towels and aroma therapy were a welcome enhancement as well. Our therapists provided an amazing 60 minute experience that left us both rejuvenated and restored. We'll definitely be booking with The Shiatsu & Massage Center again!

We visited twice while on vacation and couldn’t be more pleased with the service we received. Wendell and Toko were phenomenal. These were a couple of the best massages we have received. If you are in need of massages while in Oahu this is a must stop, multiple people from our group visited also and had similar experiences.

This was my first time utilizing “Shiatsu and Massage center” services. I can tell you that “Kiko” removed every lump and bump that was living in my back and neck. I wish that I could take her back to Georgia with me. Kiko was very informative along with taking care of all my needs.
