Fun stop

Probably a tourist trap, but fun to make a stop at anyway. You can get a certificate for USD6 and observe an experiment for a small fee. If you are heading to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, note that there is a less tacky sign at the Equator marker there. Given how badly hit the tourism sector has been, it does not hurt to stop at this marker and to lend the people trying to make a living out of the marker a bit of support.

Bringing geography to life

There isnt really much to see at the equator point, but it provides a good photo opportunity and bringing to life lessons learned in geography. The Kenya Tourism Board has put in effort in making the area stand, there is space for parking for vehicles, shops selling souvenirs nearby and locals to demonstrate the equator experience.

I've always seen people post pictures of themselves at the equator marker and it had been in my bucketlist for the longest time
I'm glad to check that of my bucket list it was an amaizing experience to be at the equator

A Good place to know more about the Equator

You get to see where the equator goes through Kenya at this point. It’s a great place to take pictures and make memories of how far you have traversed Kenya since it is quite far from Nairobi.

Easy 15 minute stop along the way to someplace else

This is one of those places to get some photos, see some low-tech science experiment and enjoy the area. There are many equator markers throughout Kenya but this one is on the way to many Mt. Kenya stops, Ol-Pajeta, and the other conservancies in the area. It was fun, not too expensive, and a nice place for a photo. Don’t go out of your way to get there, there is only a sign and a photo op, you pay for the science experiment.

Low tech science at work!

A great place to stop and see science at work! Someone will do a couple of experiments with you to show you the impact of the Coriolis Effect. It's really remarkable what a difference 10 feet make. It costs a few dollars "donation" and you can also buy a $5 certificate saying you were on the equator if you want a cheap memento to go with your photos. There is also a curio shop attached and yes, the proprietors are dedicated salesmen. I found some beautiful jewelry there. Just remember to pay about 1/3 of the price they actually quote you. We actually found better deals with no haggling at our lodge gift shops.

Here you are in the middle of the globe according to geography.The guys here will show you the movement of water north and south of the Equator.The shops are strategically placed and a variety of items.

Quick visit from Lake Naivasha to Nanyuri

Due to the rain and the shut down of Hell's gate due to a lioness/cub sighting, we decided to visit the Equator marker. Was a little bit disappointed, since it was just a sign off the main road, so not sure if authentic. It was exciting to see the rotation demonstrated on a saucer with water on which a matchstick was dropped and seeing the clockwise and anticlockwise motion occur. The hawkers are determined to sell their ware but there are nice artifacts/souvenirs there. They try to sell you a certificate for your visit... ha ha.

Es un lugar muy precario. Aca hay parroquianos que se ofrecen hacer la demodstracion de que segun donde se ubique el agua gira para el lado izquierda o derecha o no gira.
