Well, this cemetery is definitely not the highlight. Kulusuk offers the experience of visiting the biggest island in the world and its magnificent Ice White view. Expect an unpredictable weather.... high velocity wind especially. There is a small museum, 1 convenient store and drum dance. And dun forget the optional boat ride back to the airport.

Interesting to see the crosses of all the people buried here. Lots of history. Not much to see though. It's on the walk from the airport to the city.

We walked into town from the hotel. Our guide showed us the "new" cemetery, and then as we got into town, we saw the "old" cemetery. The Greenlanders do not put their names on the burial markers for the most part because they believe in passing along their names to the unborn as they leave. It was the end of August, but rather chilly as we viewed the cemetery. I can only imagine how cold it must be in winter. It is worth taking a look at.

Situated on top of a hill overlooking the city, The rows of crosses, some leaning or toppled over give an feeling of time and people of past. The area is wind swept and very lonely. Easy hike from hotel and worth the visit.

We passed this cemetery on the way into town. What a great view for the people buried there. A really solemn place to visit and wonder what it was like to live in KusuLuk.

As part of our walking day-trip to Kulusuk, we hiked up the hill to the cemetery. The observations from other travelers is on point - nameless white crosses preserve that person's name for another member of the family. The ruggedness of the terrain is obvious in both the lack of flowers and the burial practices as it is granite after all. Just on the other side of the hill you will have some of the most spectacular first glimpses of Kulusuk village.

If you are reviewing the stops on this site, trying to decide whether to take the day trip to Kulusuk like I was, I am writing this review for you! This was probably a top 10 day in my life visiting this tiny village. This tour was SO amazing and so interesting to see how the people here live. The scenery was absolutely *breathtaking*. The people in the village that we had the opportunity to interact with were so nice. We took the boat ride back to the airport through the iceberg-filled harbor - just breathtaking.
The cemetery itself was very interesting and our guide, who was from another part of Greenland, told how he was named in this tradition. It is so interesting to see how people live and their culture here.
All in all an absolutely amazing visit!! Don't hesitate to go if you have the opportunity.

nur ca. 15 Minuten fussmarsch vom Hotel entfernt, ein ausflug der sich lohnt. nette Gebäude, heulende Schlittenhunde, die man fast über die ganze Insel hören kann (bei passendem wind)

Dopo un atterraggio su pista in terra battuta con un bimotore, ti accoglie questo piccolo paesino e a breve distanza si può visitare il vecchio cimitero. Qui sembra che il tempo sia fermo.

I am fascinated by this trip but know almost nothing about it. How do I get more information? Who is in charge of the tour, how do I sign up, what is cost, would I have an English-speaking guide, are there also 2-3 day tours including perhaps a helicopter ride over the center of Greenland, a boat trip to see some scenic fjords and a several hour dog sled ride (with me riding not doing the mushing) etc., etc. I will be in Iceland mid-May 2018 and want to spend at least a day in Greenland (perhaps 2-3 days)to get a feel for the culture and day-to-day life in such a remote and challenging climate. I hope someone can help me plan and set this up.

Check Air Iceland (not Icelandair) and they have several tours and trips. We were there in June and the tours had just started so check timing. Our guide was English speaking (a college student) and from Greenland and he was very interesting and informative about the culture. Absolutely loved our day here and it's fascinating to see how people live here!! Highly recommend going! Plan to bring Danish cash as they don't take US dollars, Iceland Kroner or Euros and the locals have some beautiful and interesting things to sell!
