Visited in winter, with services running when there was someone waiting. I showed up in the morning not long after opening. The waiting hall area is well heated and I needed to wait for the next gondola up as the previous one had just been loaded up with freight to take to the top. The staff member was lovely and actually accompany you on the way to the top in the carriage, a journey which only takes about 5 minutes. Views are weather dependant and can change rapidly, so it is worth giving yourself some extra time at the top to wait for the opportune moment to see Guastatoppen mountain and Rjukan valley below, its quite amazing to observe how quickly the weather can change!
Views at the top are impressive and you can climb to the top of the tower above where you disembark at the top to get a good viewing point. It was quite cold when I visited so I headed into the café next door and this was also excellent. The building is modern and warm with tall high ceiling windows facing out towards and mountain and valley below. The café offered affordable warm drinks too. Staff were also friendly there.
Overall well worth the visit and with views to last me a lifetime. Be advised though, the Krossobanen only operates two cars at a time, so in winter you will need to be patient - the operator may be helping someone on the lower station before coming up to take you down, so again factor in some waiting time - they do reach you as soon as they can however.

Interesting experience. Nice folk, service is very simple, nice view from the top if not foggy. Even if the coffee is not open, there will be a "warm room" on the top.

Queued up bought tickets, when we got to gate told wheelchair would not go through the door and there were 5 steps to negotiate.
Wife in wheelchair had to stay at the bottom. In fact there are nearer 15 steps in all.
View from top was good, worth the ride up.
Still waiting for a refund. Would be good if they put on website not wheelchair accissible.

Excellent facilities to have a day out with family. A walk from Gvepseborg cafe to Kanonstillinga was amazing. And great view from the top

Fantastisk utsikt, en fin opplevelse å kjøre krossobanen. Køen gikk relativt hurtig både opp og ned. Om du har tid og form vil jeg anbefale å ta banen en vei og gå på bakken en vei.

Usedvanlig fin tur opp mot vidda. Tenårsjentene var litt nervøse, men føreren håndterte reisen så bra.

This was made in 1929 so that the residents in Rjukan could see sunlight in the winter. The cars are from that time period and one can get the feel of the technology of that era. The views are fantastic and the ride was a pleasant and fun experience.
The station at the lower level is ok. It is confusing about how one is supposed to get tickets in order to get on the ride. Buy your tickets from the ticket machine; I think you can buy them online as well. We bought the round-trip ticket; however, many go up and then hike down. You ring a bell that indicates you want to go up the mountain. It was like being in a Fellini Movie. We figured it out eventually. The price was reasonable. Check their website for current prices and opening hours.
There is a lot of potential here to develop this into a first -class experience. However, the station at the top is very run down, dirty, broken windows, the steps needed the grime and dirt to be swept up, it was unclear that one can also walk up several flights of stairs in order to see even a better view - we figured it out when We saw someone coming down. The telescope was broken.
There was a cafe up there, but we did not want to try it since everything at the top station was so run-down and dirty. They need to do a DUGNAD/a volunteer effort to fix the place up, replace windows, sweep, clean, paint etc. The trails need to be improved as well. They need to be better marked. There are now several tramways/cable card up the mountains in Norway, so this place needs HELP from the Rjukan citizens to bring up the standard. Thank you for reading this. Do go up for the views and hiking opportunities, just be aware it is very run-down and unloved.

Husker i 'gamle dager', det kostet 10 øre for innenbygdsboende og 50 øre for utenbys. så var det alltid like moro å bestille 'helt opp'

hyggelig bane fører med godt humør. Regn og dårlig sikt dessverre men vi fikk et glimt av Rjukan. Fin cafe på toppen med veldig hyggelige ansatte hadde nok blitt sittende lengre om veret hadde vert bedre :)
