The completely preserved castle complex on the Calvary of the city originally dates from the Moorish era. Uphill you reach via a cypress-lined staircase. Inside the imposing fortress walls is the 14th-century Sanctuary of Sant Salvador. ==References==

The town of Arta with the castle of Sant Salvador is very nice and quiet. There is no entrance fee to the castle. There is a restaurant and toilets on the premises of the castle. There is a church - Transfiguració del Senyor not far from the castle, which is also worth seeing. Entrance to this church costs 2 Euros and cash only.

Lovely walk up from the church with fantastic views from the walls. Cafe and toilets. Free entry. Good signage. Worth a visit.

It is worth climbing although I recommend doing it without much heat as there are quite a few steps. The views are very good and the Sanctuary is fine.

Visited Sunday while in the area of Arta. No fee and only area to walk round and a cafe. Fabulous views from the top over Arta and surrounding area. Chapel inside which is worth a look around and xan light a candle. 229 steps down to the church below which unfortunately was closed.
Small amount of parking at the top. Lots of people parked in a carpark at bottom but its a good hike up the hill. We managed to get right to top.
Nice to visit if in the area.

Arta is a lovely town and the icing on the cake is the walled fortress of Sant Salvador which sits atop it. Its an easy walk up from the center, I'd recommend during the cooler evening time certainly in August anyway. Its not totally original, restored in the 1960's, but this is a pleasant stroll around the ramparts to take in the views.

Having spent the day in this part of the island (Caves of Arta, Cala Rajada and Cala Agulla), we decided to stop by this place on our way. It was the end of the day: no difficulty to park (free parking nearby) and few people on site. The walk was very nice, peaceful, superb view around, the site is beautiful and clean, small tour on the ramparts and in the small church. Toilet available on site. We did not continue the visit through the village for lack of time but regrettably because it seems very cute and pleasant. What to do if you're around.

It deserves to be visited because it is really interesting, so much so that it looks like a castle. It is located at the top of the town of Artà with the majestic church next to it. Free admission.

A quiet place to stop off: a picturesque monastery with lovely coffee and a wonderful viewpoint. The sunset and the starry sky are spectacular. Be sure to bring a jacket though, as it is very windy.
