One of my most memorable experiences in Belize and I have traveled throughout the country four times. We stayed at Palmento Grove and engaged in both the Garifuna Cultural Experience and Bioluminescence and Drumming excursion. The family who runs it is gracious and are wonderful teachers. We drummed with Boom-Boom, harvested casava, processed coconut from the tree to milk, and cooked a fabulous meal that included fish straight out of the lagoon.The island is idyllic and the cabins rustic, but very comfortable and high enough in the air for a lovely breeze and views. If you want to really learn and interact with the people of Belize, be sure to include Palmento Grove.

The entire experience was a learning experience that I will never forget! I learned so much about the Garifuna culture and it was a completely immersive experience, down to getting dressed in the traditional wear. The culinary tour was the best experience of all! I learned how to make the entire meal from scratch, made it and it was delicious! Uwahnie was an amazing guide; well knowledgeable and it felt like home at the lodge. I will certainly be returning with guests!

This food was so good and authentic! I've got reproduce this at home! Everyone was so friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I had a wonderful time!

I already knew quite a bit about the Garafuna people and culture but learned more and loved the layed back and peaceful experience. It’s a beautiful setting. Cooking the Hudut was fun and delicious. I also loved the herb garden.As there were only two other people on the tour it felt quite intimate as well. I’m glad my participation could help even in a small way.

In a simple and inspiring way, you got to know the origin of the Garifuna and how they have cared for their culture food, music and more to our days ...The cooking course and the Drumming class was extremely fun and highly recommended it

On our recent trip to Hopkins, we booked a visit to Palmento Grove and had a wonderful time with Uwahnie and her family. We learned about Garifuna customs and cuisine. We helped gather native plants and herbs and assisted in cooking our own delicious lunch using traditional cooking utensils and tools. Our visit concluded with a drumming lesson and delicious dessert! I highly recommend this experience as a way to learn about the Garifuna ways which Uwahnie and others are preserving and teaching others about.

My husband and I celebrated our anniversary in Belize and absolutely loved this experience! The food was delicious. The culture was interesting. It was HOT! so dress appropriately - and spray bug spray - but I highly recommend it.

We so enjoyed our stay at Palmento! We had privacy and were away from the noise of town, yet close enough to enjoy it as well. We rented bikes and kayaks while we were there to get around and had several home-made meals at Palmento. NEVER have we had better food anywhere!!!! The room was rustic, with battery-powered lights, fan, and water pump. But that suited our style just fine.

Hi! We are a senior couple arriving in Dangriga around 4:30 on March 5th. We would like to stay for 2 nights with you an would like to know how to arrive, as we do not have a car. I understand there is a bus that leaves at 5 pm. Are there other transport if we don't make that bus?

Yes, there is a bus that leaves at 5:00 p.m.
You can also catch a taxi cab that will be able to take you to Hopkins.
We can also assist with the arrangement of the cab transfer.

We already have paid for reservations nearby that are nonrefundable, but this sounds soooooo cool. Do we have to stay at the Lodge to do the cooking, coconut picking, and drumming?
