Not the best example of the medieval builders craft, as the tower has subsided one way whilst the nave subsided the other.

Its down a single track road so be warned, and parking is a nightmare. You also need to be fit enough to climb a short slope to get to it. However, once you do it is well worth it as the view down the nave to the tower is really worth experiencing. Be warned though, it is disorientating and makes you feel drunk before the days drinking has even began.

Even my wife enjoyed the trip

If you have any interest in unusual buildings whatsoever this should be on the absolute must do list.

This church, mainly from the 13th century, is an architectural marvel. No two surfaces are level with any other due to massive subsidence and movement. The church has been buttressed all around to try and keep it upright - and it seems to have worked.

No stained glass windows, but the windows catching the sun are glorious as they cast their shadows in the church.

Lots of old memorials and other carvings. Beautiful views over the countryside.

This is an extraordinarily eccentric old church in the most beautiful and tranquil location. The walls appear to lean and bulge in all directions with no right-angles in evidence anywhere. It is well worth visiting and I don't understand why it is not better known.

I saw this church on Escape to the Country, so when we went to UK this summer, it was on my list.
Only take the time to go here if you truly have a love of history, if you aren't looking for touristy traps, if you can walk around a quiet spot and feel satisfied.
I am so glad that we included it - when you think of how old the church is, and how it survived a landslide. It was just such a sense of history of this country.
Thank you Jules, for having included it on one of your previews of Wales. Without you, I wouldn't've known about it.

We loved this little church at Cwmyoy! It was recommended by some local friends, and we went with some other friends to visit it.

Be warned, the road to the church is narrow, steep, winding and challenging - not for the faint of heart! If you come across a lay-by en route it’s worth pulling up and walking. There’s extremely limited parking at the church and it’s hard to get to due to the he bends and incline and narrow lane.

Once inside, this church is very quirky and reminds me of a pub near where I grew up called the Crooked House. Like this pub, St Martins church is the victim of subsidence, and it’s tower leans at a greater angle than the leaning tower of Pisa! On the other side it has slipped in the opposite direction meaning it is completely twisted. If you stand at one side and look at the other inside it makes you feel rather drunk! The church is now safely secured in its twisted state, so go and enjoy its quirks and tranquility.

Visited this church where three generations of my family are buried, it is an interesting church as the tower leans one way and the chancel the other, one day it will probably fall apart but has stood for about 900 years

Be warned that the roads to this "wonky" church are very narrow in places. We opted to park down the road in a layby and walk the remaining distance along the roads to the church. You cant really park outside.
The overall appearance of the church shows the landscape with the uneven walls, leaning gravestones and pathway to the church. Once inside its peaceful and lovely for all those who enjoy religious buildings, we've yet to find another one

We called in here after walking up Skirrid and having it recommended to us by a lovely couple we met. Be warned, the lanes to get there are VERY narrow and not many passing places, skilful country driving is required. It is beautiful. Extremely crooked, like no other church I have ever visited. Highly recommend to anybody who enjoys religious buildings.
