Original and very nice museum. It is divided into 2 parts: one tells the history of Austria, with particular attention to what happened in the last century, the second is characterized by the animals, real and stuffed. A good compromise for both adults and children.

Sehr gut organisiert, sehr interessant. Man sollte sich 3 Stunden Zeit nehmen um halbwegs alles anzuschauen.

So eine chaotische Präsentation der Geschichte einer Region habe ich noch nie gesehen. Ein komplettes Durcheinander. Von der Urgeschichte direkt ins Mittelalter und in die Neuzeit. Viel Platz, aber kaum genutzt. Das Obergeschoss ist noch schlimmer. Was will man eigentlich in diesem Museum zeigen? Gibt es ein Konzept? Der Naturteil ist besser. Trotzdem: das winzige Krahuletz-Museum in Eggenburg ist tausend Mal informativer. Schaut euch das an, da kann man staunen und lernen.

Wir waren eigens nach St. Pölten gekommen, um uns die Ausstellung über den "jungen Jahre Adolf Hitler, ""Der junge Hitler Prägende Jahre eines Diktators 1889 - 1914) anzuschauen. Die Ausstellung, welche teilweise mit alten Ton- und Filmdokumenten aus den 1960/1970er-Jahren von Hitlers ehemaligen Klassenkameraden/Bekannten aus den 1890-1914er Jahren ergänzt wird, gibt sehr gute Aufschlüsse darauf, wie dieser unscheinbare Bub zum späteren Monster werden konnte. Die Ausstellung lohnt diesen Umweg auf jeden Fall.

Das Museum Niederösterreich bietet einen sehenswerten Überblick. Das Haus der Geschichte bringt viele Themen übersichtlich zur Sprache. Der Gang durchs Museum ist auch ohne Führung möglich. Im Haus der Natur ist die Tier- und Pflanzenwelt Niederösterreichs dargestellt. Die Sonderausstellung über das Leben Adolf Hitlers erklärte vor allem auch das Umfeld seines Lebens.

Gut gelungen! Wirklich guter Mix aus NÖ Natur und Geschichte - ein Haus, das den Bund vor Neid erblassen ließe, aber auch manche Bundesländer erst kreieren müssen. Gut gelungen, finde ich und fühle mich wohl dort - auch "danach" in der Gastronomie...

Die Ausstellung SPIONAGE 39 Fälle war gut aufbereitet und sehr interessant, von der Bespitzelung unter Metternich und der DDR bis zur Spionin Mata Hari war vieles vorhanden !

War mit meinem kleinen Sohn (5 Jahre) zum xten Mal. Und es ist jedesmal toll. Freundliche und witzige Mitarbeiter*innen, viel Wissenswertes das auch kindgerecht dargestellt und aufbereitet wird, ein netter indoor Spielplatz.... rund um immer einen Besuch wert.

St. Pölten, the provincial capital of the province of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) is often scoffed at for being just that: a provincial capital. Yet, despite dramatic wartime destruction, it has a lovely old town with historic buildings from medieval times to baroque to art deco, most of it located around an extensive pedestrian zone with lots of little shops, bars and cafes.
When St. Pölten became the provincial capital in 1986 a whole new government and cultural district was built on the Eastern side of town. This is where you'll find the Museum Niederösterreich, a pleasant 10 minute walk from Cathedral Square (Domplatz).
Museum Niederösterreich has two sections: the section sketching the province's history, art, culture, industry, agriculture, etc. from the Neolithic to present times with an important emphasis on World War II, the atrocities committed by Austrians under the Nazi regime, on concentration camps in the Ostmark, on the persecution of Jews and minorities. And an interesting section on local life under the occupation by the Allied powers;
and the section on natural history of the province with an excellent display of local animal life, in particular large aquariums and many terraria and displays of local animal and plant life.
Excellent explanation and documentation of the displays in German and English, many interactive stations, quite suitable for young children. Plus a nice cafeteria and museum shop and very friendly staff.
