Spooktacular! 🧙‍♂️

Set up during day for Halloween and kids, first rate actors setting treasure hunts and games all rewarded with sweets. Very atmospheric. Love to see a Christmas set up by candlelight

Excellent trip

We visited the caves with our 10 year old grandson and I have to say they were absolutely brilliant. Warning the ghost of the white lady was very visible so if you are frightened easily beware. 👍😂. Staff are very friendly.

It's a cave system
2021年9月 • 夫妻情侣
Very interesting man made cave system with an interesting history. We spent about 45mins inside. It's a bit chilly inside so only the hardy wouldn't need an extra layer. Also it's loose gravel so reasonable shoes would be best.

And those over about 5 1/2ft will need to be aware of the headroom!

Nice cafe onsite and very nice staff.

Stay away

Waste of money. Emphasises on the haunted side with dummies wearing strange costumes. Just some cold and dark tunnels. Walk up to the cemetery or something else because just about anything is better

Pricey entrance fee...
2021年8月 • 好友
Been here before, and returned with some work colleagues. It is a little dear for the entrance fee, but is a fascinating place, the labyrinth of pathways are fun to explore and the lighting is nice. Take your time and look out for faces and graffiti carved into the chalk. Well worth reading some of the facts about the history of the caves too.

Interesting, but expensive for what it is.

Despite getting a discount as National Trust members, we felt the entrance fee is expensive for this small attraction. Yes, it’s interesting, but you can be in and out in under 45 minutes despite stopping to read every information board. The mannequins are a bit tacky and add nothing to the experience in my opinion. A Loo and a small area serving food.

Great

Great fun, nice and interesting, take a jacket down there with you, it’s cold!

Well put together, £7 for students makes it good value. Experience takes you about 45 mins to 1hr. It’s good because actually it’s very un-commercialised which is rare these days.

What would be nice is if they could get a separate ticket purchasing desk aside from the cafe as the queue was huge as persons took a while to get their food and drink. Bit annoying when you just want two tickets.

A slice of quintessential English debauchery.
2021年8月
We had seen this location on a number of programs and were very interested in the history. Having gone passed on the train a number of times and seen the mausoleum and church that stands above the caves themselves we thought it was time for a visit.
Parking is in a number a number of locations and there is plenty of it. Parking directly outside the caves is very limited (5-6 spaces) but there is plenty if you continue to drive up to the church and is an ideal starting place also.
The caves are self guided and it is a simple case of going into the shop/cafe and either showing your pre-booked tickets or purchasing tickets on the day. There is no need to book in advance now and the time slots on the internet seemed pretty much arbitrary as the tokens allow you entry at any time and as they are unmanned controlled barriers. So do not worry about being late or early though they open at 11am precisely and not before.
The tunnels themselves are pretty dark with a soft gravel underneath. There is an air of dampness at all times due to it being underground! It is also worth wearing a jumper or jacket to cover your arms to keep you warm regardless of the temperature outside. You follow the caves down with various interesting statements and displays in the chambers. The caves themselves are pretty spectacular to think they were dug out by hand and keep going down and down. It is a fairly steady slope though no buggies or wheelchairs and the like are allowed. You will feel the uphill walk out. You wander as you wish and can just turn around and come out when you've seen enough. It takes around 45mins to an hour to take everything in. Acoustics in the main chamber and inner temple are great if you fancy a sing! The darkness of the caves can scare littles ones (we saw one very scared little boy who would go no further than the first stretch and was terrified his family would become lost and never escape, bless him) though despite the paranormal background of the location it is actually very serene. There is plenty of room to move around though the ceilings can get a little low in places but it is not restrictive. The history and some wonderings on what might have been is truly fascinating.Exactly what went on in these caves is also a nice little mystery that is delved into.
The cafe is fairly standard for these types of types of attractions at standard prices. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Outside and inside seating is available with toilets also.
Overall a nice short trip out to get you out of the house. You can then explore both St Mary's Church and the Mausoleum at the top of the hill also tying everything together. The views of the countryside are pretty spectacular too. If you have an interest in the Hellfire Club as a whole this is a must see location. All in all an enjoyable trip out.

interesting

There is a very small carpark outside the caves and as it was full we drove on up the hill and saw two other cars turn round and go back down before finding the large free carpark at the top of the hill - from which it's a fairly short interesting walk (with stunning views) via the mausoleum down to the caves.
Having the cafe, toilets and booking office in the same small space seems silly... maybe the carpark by the caves should be disabled only and move the cafe to the top carpark and have tickets and gift shop by the cave entrance.
National trust members get £1 off their entry fee, which was good as we may have baulked at full price for two of us.
The caves and history are interesting but the high point for us was finding ourselves in the biggest cavern totally alone and with no other visitors in earshot....the silence (broken my a single water drip) was magnificent. All that was missing was a bench to sit on.

Went with my wife and one year old. An interesting, atmospheric place that makes a fun short trip. Coffee in the cafe was very good as well.
