The temple was quiet and had beautiful architecture and paintings but it might not be good to visit during rains as the surrounding area was very slippery and covered with moss. It was a bit difficult for elders to walk.

It is most underrated place in Coorg. It’s a unique temple with Hindu islamic architecture. The temple is very old. The main god Inside the temple is lord Omkareshwara .

Having journeyed over 2500 kms from North India, my family and I were filled with anticipation as we approached the Omkareshwara Temple in Coorg. The temple, nestled in the scenic beauty of Coorg, held the promise of a spiritual haven, a place to find peace and seek blessings. Unfortunately, our experience was far from it.
Upon arrival, heavy rain blurred our vision, and in the absence of clear signage or guidance, we inadvertently climbed the temple stairs with our shoes on, thinking there might be a designated area to leave them further up. This genuine oversight was met, not with understanding, but with harsh rebuke. The temple staff, including individuals who seemed to hold senior positions, confronted us aggressively. Their loud, berating tones echoed off the temple walls, turning a place of worship into a scene of distress.
My elderly parents, always embodiments of patience and respect, tried to explain and remedy the situation. Yet, the temple staff continued their confrontational approach, showing no empathy or attempt to understand our perspective. We mentioned the language barrier and our unfamiliarity with certain customs, but it fell on deaf ears. They not only denied us the chance to pay our respects but also made us feel unwelcome and humiliated.
In reflection, while my family and I hold deep respect for all cultural and religious traditions, the encounter at Omkareshwara Temple left a painful mark. It’s my sincere hope that no other visitor experiences such treatment, especially in a place meant to symbolize peace, understanding, and spirituality. I urge the temple authorities to better train their staff and ensure that all visitors are treated with the dignity they deserve.

An ancient temple, located within the town. The temple has a nice architecture with a water tank adjacent to temple. When we visited on a rainy day, it was less crowded and hence darshan could be done quickly. The temple had a calm atmosphere, we spent some peaceful family time inside the temple. Temple has specific opening time and dress code.

Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga dedicated to Lord Shiva . It's 139 km far from Ujjain Madhy Pradesh . By road it takes 4 - 5 hours reaching there. Roads are enough good, only few km road isn't good.
We need 2 - 3 hours for Darshan. Uncontrolled croud. No arrangements to manage the crowd. Holy Narmada river flows there.
Crossing the river, we can visit Mamleshwar Jyotirlinga. Again crowd, May be because of summer vacation.

Very big area around the temple with a big water tank with fish at the entrance. A few big and steep steps to climb and you are inside the temple..the temple is open from 5 pm to 8 pm -since we went very close to the closing hours there was no one around so the darshan was peaceful. (they also have a few hours in the morning that the temple is open for devotees). You can visit if in Madikeri.

We visited it late in the evening after returning from Raja's Seat. It had a really calm atmosphere and was not at all crowded. We could go and stay inside the temple to enjoy a peaceful atmosphere. The best part was the place was not too strict about dress code....though full clothes were mentioned in boards but nobody checked our attire when we entered....we were in full clothes (jeans, T shirt and jacket) but not in traditional ones. We peacefully had the darshan, did the parikrama and bought laddu prasad. Moreover felt good to find such a peaceful atmosphere in the heart of the crowded city of Madikeri.
