Great place to visit, don't take kids below 5 years, 4.5 km off road cost around 1500 per Jeep, only professional drivers or well experienced people can drive. Good time to visit from 7 am to 10 am / 3 pm to 6 pm. Don't visit on peak summer.

This place is way from the hustle bustle and offers some seclusion and calmness. It is perfect place to go for trekking. Once at the top of the hill, you will be greeted with cool and gentle breeze along with huge stretch of lush greenery.

Mandalpatti peak is a must visit place in Madikeri. Around 20km from Madikeri. It is strictly off road ride and little bit of trekking. I will not recommend for pregnant women and old people.
Best time to visit is during sunrise. The gate will open at 6am. We need to be there at that time. We can hire Jeep from Madikeri to Mandalpatti. There are people who go to the base point and hire Jeep from there as well. But I recommend to hire Jeep from Madikeri itself as there are no big rate difference (according to what our driver said).
If you are lucky you can witness sunrise from the peak. There is a small watch tower as well at the peak. Around one hour ride from Madikeri to base point and from base point another 30mins ride to reach the peak.
Once you reach the peak during early morning, it will be cold and there will be so much wind which you can't imagine. The wind we felt there is unimaginable. One hell of a wind.
Must visit if you love off road ride and trekking. 👌

Best to avoid!!
Friends upon this trip to coorg, we went to famous Mandalpatti peak for the views.
Now, there's a situation there. One shouldn't take its own car as the time taken from the junction of Abbi falls and Mandalpatti peak is about 40 min.
After approx 10 minutes of journey , off roading road will.start which only.and only local experienced drivers can drive through in their old mahindra jeeps. They charge about 2000/- per car. They give you approx an hour up the viewing point.
Its a top Podium made by government for people to.enjoy the beauty of Hills of Coorg.
There's no eating joints in the to- fro journey and best to avoid heavy lunch before this journey. Its a rodeo of 30 minutes.

Roads are very rocky. When you want off-roading experience then only choose this location. Sr. Citizen,small babies families or people with backpain please check if you want to go or not. Jeep 🚙 is the only option you get to reach at peak. We shared it with other couple, it took 2500 total for us. Experienced somewhat harsh driving but road was also not good and we requested driver to go somewhat slow. Once you reach at point, it's very beautiful. When we visited it was cloudy. Pathway to reach at top of hill at sight is very beautiful. You will need approximately 45 min to reach, 45 min roam around sight n sane time to come back. We visited it after visiting abbey falls and started at 3.30 pm to go there.

This is an excellent experience. The only way to reach is using the Jeep for rent. Road are not good and you need skilled driver to make this trip. It cost us around 3500rs for a round trip. You might be able to get it much cheaper for 2500rs or less, explore a bit more. But the place is serene and one of the best experiences you will find in Coorg.

I visited in September, not the ideal weather for sun-rise/ set but the fog and breeze, view at the top is a different worthwhile experience. As clouds pass through you, they condense and form water droplets on your eye lashes and hair and can feel goose bumps literally!!
To add, we had a great guide/ companion in Yogesh MD(+91 94481 52 373) who was very friendly and a good knowledgeable localite! Yogesh being a ex-Taj employee has a great network and made our journey more memorable by suggesting right places to visit at right times!
The road to the top is extremely rocky and he was very clear suggesting the challenges for a senior citizen unlike a few other guides who suggested otherwise.
Do not carry any plastic items or eatables as the forest officers at the entrance are very strict.
Nominal charge - Rs. 2500 ( including entry fees and parking).
MUST VISIT IN COORG!

Visited in June’23 under intermittent rain. Our cab dropped us at a point, from where we hired a jeep at Rs. 2500. It was around 35-40 minutes’ drive from pick-up to the peak. Initial drive was through country site and through narrow but pitched road. The ride of last 3-4 km, after the entry point of peak, was completely broken and the ride was bumpy. There is an entry fee of Rs. 50 per pax, which is to be paid at the entry point. As we approached the peak, it started raining heavily, however rain stopped after some wait, but the weather became cloudy and misty, visibility was poor too. There is a small hike from parking. Due to foggy weather, there was no view from the peak. We spent some time at the peak and enjoyed the cool weather. While return, our jeep driver stopped at a midway point for some photo ops of valley. Overall an enjoyable visit but without any view from peak.

Till where can I take my car to mandalpatti , do I put maps as mandalpatti forest check post ? And park car there and then take Jeep ? And is it available at 4 pm ?

You can take your car only upto a parking lot from where you can hire the jeep. Availability depends on climatic conditions, but yes you can get upto 5 pm

To my knowledge there is no online booking . All jeeps are parked in rows. On first come first served basis they allot the traveller's their jeep. If you are more than four you can hire your own or you may have to wait till they get six persons. It is not a motorcycle road. Only jeeps can go. Busses cannot.

You got to be fit and adept in negotiatiing the hazardous terrain. Equally the bike should be good. Double seat is no no. Beyond a point the road is treacherous. However we have seen two wheeler climb up

No, only till some distance you can take your car post that there are Jeeps available for 2500-3000 INR for a group. You need to take that because it needs a 4 wheel drive vehicle to reach the hills. Post this again you need to climb to reach the peak of the hill since the Jeep will only take you till the entrance gate of the hill and will wait there only till you come back. Hope this helps.
