As I started my career training to be a Civil Engineer, seeing this structure just makes you realise what a great job the Belgians have done constructing this masterpiece.
Unfortunately, I didn’t see it in operation when I visited on a Sunday, but that didn’t distract from the amazing views. It’s one place you need to visit if you’re near this area.

The content of the exhibition and the film are very interesting The exhibition is not interactive and is not suitable for audiences other than adults. The tone of the film is pontificating: it is old and too slow. In short: interesting visit but whose format should be modernized and energized

In my opinion you should start by visiting the museum, then take the boat trip.
You absolutely must book before going there.
Excellent time with friends, really interesting, we had a great day.
A little nod to the lady who played the game at reception for our men's surprise weekend. The gentleman upstairs was also very friendly.

Never thought people could build something like this... Two barges bridge a height difference of 70 meters for ships on the canal. visit the museum, the engine room, an interesting video show. In the afternoon we embark for a cruise via an old ship lift! a sensation to sail with the ship in a barge and then be hoisted down 30 meters!

What an impressive building. From scratch they dug canals here and built a ship lift. You can see the elevator from far away and it is a landmark in the landscape.
The museum is worth a visit. Only the film could perhaps be updated with some more information about the operation itself. We were also lucky enough to see a freighter on the lift.

Avions réservé la croisière. Très bon rapport qualité/prix durant cette croisière avons passé une écluse, un ascenseur à bateaux, un pont basculant, un pont tournant. Une belle découverte. Vaut vraiment le détour.

I have visited on many occasions, even a favourite stop during my cycle rides. This was the first time I visited the 8th floor (6 Euro and 6.50 Euro for pensioners) and found the cinema which explained in English, French and Dutch the history and construction stages of the lift. Also, there was a set of rooms with brief histories of different elements of Belgium history. We enjoyed a cake and drink in the cafe and looked out over a clear sunny Belgium summers day. We then dropped to the 5th floor to look through the panoramic windows. Well worth a visit, if not just to be amazed by the sheer size and engineering marvel.

Open everyday except Monday from 10am to 6:30pm. Last tickets are sold at 5pm. You can stay on a boat (Péniche Rayclau) about 1.6km upstream from the boat-lift.
