We visited on a cold miserable Sunday, so we really didn’t see it at its best.
They are undertaking renovations on large portions of the Burg/castle. On a better day the view over Esslingen would be very nice and worth the walk.
We parked the car at the car park and walked down into the town to view the churches and medieval streets/building.
Overall the town is lovely, the Burg ….. unsure! Maybe better on a nicer day!

There is a long steep covered stairway to the castle visible from the town and making everybody curious about what is on the top of the hill. Climbing it is a bit of exercise but it is definitely worth it as you can enjoy amazing views to the town all the way. If you don´t feel like walking there is a way to come to the castle on the road at the other side of it.
There is not too much left from the castle, yet it really makes sense to come and explore this place. Especially in spring when all is in bloom it is beautiful here. There is also a restaurant but I it was closed during my visit as I came early in the forenoon.

The castle walls remain on a hill overlooking the historic town of Esslingen, and serve as an observation deck. The steps are quite steep, but the view from the top is amazing, so I recommend making the effort to climb up.

it takes a little bid fitness to walk up (approx 20mins) but once there you enjoy a beautieful vie over the city

Nice place to explore. During our visit the stairs were under maintenance, but I would suggest to choose narrow street way up and down go through the wineyards.

Breve visita in occasione dei mercatini di Natale che è sempre bello visitare soprattutto per la bella atmosfera che si respira. Il borgo antico , a cui si accede attraversando un ponte sul fiume Neckar , è abbastanza circoscritto e delizioso ; pare conservi alcune delle più antiche case a graticcio tedesche. Una scalinata coperta piuttosto ripida conduce alla fortezza (o quel che resta di un antico castello) da cui si gode una bella vista sulla città e sui vigneti circostanti. Quanto si mercatini c’è n’è anche uno medievale con antichi mestieri e giochi.

Sehr gut erhaltene, gepflegte Burganlage. Beeindruckend der dicke Turm, nett zu spazieren, bei schönem wetter auch ein schöner Ausblick.

Der Weg hinauf auf die Burg ist sowohl über die Treppen, aber auch über den Weg zwar sehr beschwerlich aber lohnt sich absolut! Oben bei der Burgschänke gab es einen Glühweinstand, der uns ein Wenig über den abgesagten Weihnachtsmarkt hinweggetröstet hat. Sehr schöner Blick über die Stadt.

great walk-a lot of steps though so be prepared ! amazing view of the city- Esslingen is such a beautiful place .

Hi, can you walk from the city center to Esslinger Burg with a child on stroller? What kind of way/path is it? Would you suggest to have a walk like this to a family with young children? Thank you.

Hi. You can do this, but it is very steep and the surface is cobble stone. It's not very long but might get exhausting. All the best from Esslingen.
