Walked the towpath from Sutton wharf if you walk the side of the cafe you can walk to battlefield heritage centre through ambient wood. If you wdd as ok the other side of the canal you can follow the canal for 20 miles we didn’t do the full 20 only about 5

Although experienced narrowboaters, we have never (for some reason) previously ventured up the Ashby Canal. We decided now was the time to put this right and we are really pleased that we did.
Contrary to what we had heard, mooring was not difficult and there were plenty of opportunities apart from the nominated sites. In fact, there was a good mix of wilder areas of bank to encourage wildlife and managed areas where mooring was possible. Each mooring we found was delightfully peaceful.
Wildlife is encouraged both by habitat management and, for example, the bat boxes that had been placed on some bridges. We saw a large range of insect and bird life with some mammals. The high spot was a male yellowhammer in full song on the top of a tree.
Ample boaters facilities are provided (water, rubbish, etc.) although recycling facilities are limited. As well as boaters, the canal is well used by walkers, cyclists and fishermen/women. Although there are no locks, the canal certainly was not without interest with the preserved railway alongside for part of the route and the tunnel just before the end.
Well worth a visit and we shall return.

We walked the short Northwest section of the canal from Donisthorpe as far as the Conkers Waterside Centre and then returned along the old railway line which is now a part of the Ivanhoe Way.
Unlike many canal walks the canal bends frequently meaning you have something new to see nearly every step of the way rather than long straight towpaths which can become a bit boring.
You pass the Moira furnace and Museum en route and the return along the railway line is pleasant because the line is on a raised embankment.
A lovely morning walk.

Starts with a very sharp right hand turn from Coventry canal very rural and fairly quiet lots of reeds becoming a bit overgrown in places and water quite shallow at times.Went to site of Battle of Bosworth very interesting and Shakerston Steam railway. Market Bosworth biggest town very pretty and good fish n chips. Not many places to buy foodstuffs so stock up before you venture.

Lovely canal, spent a few days on a narrow boat here, sailed to the end and back over about 4 days just meandering along. Stopped at the Battle of Bosworth site, well worth a stop and walk to see the site and the steam trains.
The canal itself is very clean and tidy, good mooring sites, bit shallow in parts but nothing to worry about. Some nice pubs along the way. Worth a trip.

Whilst searching what to do for the day came across this little gem, my hubby enjoys canal walks, we weren’t disappointed, the place is spotless, enjoyed the museum, cafe was nice, toilets spotless, and the ride down the canal was good, the guys on the boat were friendly and informative, plenty of nice walks and picnic areas

Nothing quite like a wonder along a canal towpath during a nice English summers day.
The sights and sounds are beautiful, it’s also nice to sit and reflect whilst watching the narrow boats pass by.

You cannot beat a walk along any canal. But up on the Ashby Canal it is nice because it so peaceful. Our dogs loved it.Must be great to live up here on your boat. There are boat trips along this canal, which must be very nice.but our walk was very nice.Ending up at Sutton Cheney Wharf.
