The review from Gabby L below is completely incorrect, the Abbey is beautiful and has a rich history.

If it's good enough for Kimi Raikonnen to be married there it's good enough for us.

A magical, fairytale place, which I have visited other times, but each time is as if it were the first, a place where you find a magical and surreal atmosphere, a show that must be seen and felt with the heart. This time there was a married couple doing the photo shoot.

Magical abbey. Worth seeing... without a roof... suggestive... there are panels with the history of the saint. There is also the sword in the stone...

Nothing short of fabulous!! You are in another era. Weddings are also celebrated. With the same ticket you can also visit the hermitage of Monte siepi, nearby

The unshakable myth around the Abbey of San Galgano resists the passage of centuries unscathed, just like the legend of King Arthur and the sacred Grail (born around the Tablet of Camelot, round like the shape that outlines the contours of the hermitage) tells us takes you – incredibly – to a remote corner of Tuscany.
Some tireless followers even go so far as to hypothesize that the Holy Grail is hidden in the Montesiepi Hermitage (stubbornly sought by the Arthurian knights, hidden in a secret cavity under the floor).
This is what awaits you when you enter the open-air abbey: you immerse yourself in a very particular atmosphere. It seems like we are living in a parallel reality.
The entrance ticket costs 5 euros including the Hermitage at the entrance of which there is the sword in the stone (embedded in the floor and protected by a dome).
All very suggestive! Absolutely not to be missed!

One of the most evocative places I have ever visited, even if seen from the outside it wouldn't seem so. The place is full of charm and history and don't miss the hermitage with the famous sword in the stone just a few meters away.

Beautiful and particular. Worth seeing but can be visited in a short time. Beautiful photo taken from below, it forms a cross. Nearby you can visit the other church where, inside, there is the sword in the stone.

Abbey built in the Middle Ages, for three centuries it was of importance as a religious and economic-commercial place. Linked to Galgano Guidotti born in 1148 from a noble family of Chiusdino, destined to be a Knight, her life had a turning point of faith and with the symbolic gesture of penetrating her sword into the hard rock, she demonstrated, in addition to courage, the superiority of Christian spirituality on the violence of society, died at the age of 33 as a hermit. He was canonized. In 1218 the construction of the abbey began by the hard-working Cistercian monks who were skilled land reclamators and traders. Following the plague (1348) the place went into decline and finally with the collapse of the bell tower on the roof it was abandoned and deconsecrated.

We made a short stop here on our route. From the car park, it was a good 10-minute walk (more like 20 with children) to the ruins. We were lucky that it kept raining lightly, so there weren't many visitors. The skeleton of the church was very impressive and made for lots of cool photos. Shame on me, I hadn't looked into the history, but it was still very beautiful.

it is a suggestive place that deserves to be seen at least once. the walking route to reach the hermitage from the abbey where the sword in the stone is located is a simple and accessible route. Everything is located in the municipality of Chiusdino and it is possible with the same ticket for the visit to the Abbey to also visit the museum located in Chiusdino itself.
