Very nice museum for young and old (2-100 years). It is nice and spacious (various spaces and outside), neatly maintained, interactive and above all with lots of objects and nice stories. Museum card is not valid but the entrance is worth it!

You don't know what you're seeing. What a lot of stuff has been found on the beaches of Texel over the years. Of course there is a lot of junk that people throw away unfortunately, but valuables were also found while juggling.
Various rooms with items have been furnished. There's so much you really can't look at everything. So you go into the rooms in a sort of scan mode. (At least I have)
If you were to go a second time you would definitely see other things that you did not see last time.

Were there in August 2024 with our 7-year-old daughter. We had a lot of fun there. It's just a unique museum I've never seen before. We spent a lot of time looking and looking at all the things. The idea of the museum alone is simply brilliant. It is also beautifully landscaped and PARKING IS FREE!

Interesting to see what washes up and how it then becomes part of a cat and mouse game between authorities and beachcombers. In the captivating film shoot about one of the island's largest beachcombers, we have nicely learned that the word beachcombing is a corruption of the word stealing.

The museum is a mix of meticulously collected exhibits and scrap. That's the only way to describe it. In retrospect, I find the 8 Euro entrance fee almost a waste. You can, you don't have to.

Very nice museum! Lots to see. Informative. Funny beachcombers' stories can be viewed on a screen in a room. Don't skip it.
Nicely set up with a walking route, so you don't miss anything. Inside and outside. With playground and catering facilities at reasonable prices. Definitely visit if you are on Texel. Low entrance fee.

There is an ongoing video in which a famous beachcomber tells stories. This is very nice to see and to know where the stuff comes from. It makes you recognizable and gives you more life. Definitely recommended to go here!

Above all, it's fun, a lot of watching. Provides insight into beachcombing and the Teso. Take your time! Friendly staff, brother of the owner, took time for a chat and talked enthusiastically!

After we get there by train from Amsterdam, is it easy to catch a ferry over to Texel, and how far is the War Museum from the ferry terminal. Are there buses? We do not speak Dutch unfortunately.

You don't need to speak Dutch in tourist situations here. Everyone speaks English well.
From Amsterdam Central Station, take the train north to Den Helder (70 minutes). From that little station, walk out the exit and next door to the bus depot. There will be signs for a bus to Texel boot (boat); The bus is free and is timed to meet your train arrival. The bus takes you to the ferry. Where you enter the ferry terminal, you can buy a ticket from the machine (faster) or from the cashier (slower) and then enter the ferry. The fare is 2.50 euros to get there and free to return.
When you are on Texel, you will need transport to your hotel (unless you are bringing bikes from Amsterdam); You can either rent a bike where you get off of the ferry or you can take the Texel Hopper bus service for 3 euros to your hotel.
texelhopper (dot) nl is the website for booking the bus on the island
The Beachcombing museum (not a war museum) is just outside of De Koog and that is around 6 kms from the ferry port (approx).
