Amazing roast (best gravy ever) -even met the head chef who clearly cares
Bar staff super friendly and helpful - dog friendly too. Definitely will be going back.

Lovely roast with friends. New chef did an amazing job, everything cooked to perfection. My only complaint would be the it was a bit Luke warm. Friendly bar staff and a fun atmosphere.

The exchange is a proper local pub with the most lovely staff and great food! We always take our friends form out of town and everybody loves the vibe and the super friendly staff!

I retry this place once every year or two, always the same. Young, rude and unhelpful management. No atmosphere at all. This place was genuinely more inviting in the late 90s when you were likely to get an ashtray smashed over your head for supporting the wrong football team.

No napkins, salviettes or cutlery where offered on tables, neither sauces or condiments. We had to wait over 1 hours to receive 3 vegetarian burgers that comes from.supplier frozen... just need to deep fry them.
We complaint to the bar about the waiting time and a girl said they where very busy... yes busy in the bar but no one was eating.
So wait over 1 hour to get served 3 vegeterian burgers where most of the ingredients are frozen... very disapponited. Shame as its my local pub... i may have to find other place to consider local.

Looking for somewhere to escape pride on Saturday evening after a full on day in town. Decided to call in at the exchange as we know they do a good pint and a good range of music. Unfortunately the smell of disinfectant was overwhelming and stung my eyes and got to the back if my throat. Why would they do this? Such a shame and very avoidable!

We were placed outside the toilets for Sunday lunch with strict instructions to leave by 3 o'clock as it was Mothers day. The state of the toilet doors was disgusting and I had a good view of men and women entering to use the facilities. It is a large pub and there were plenty of empty tables, though filling up while we were there. The Sunday lunch was acceptable but not great. The tables were very sticky and probably not very hygienic. A shabby pub with the emphasis on evening music..

For spectacularly unfriendly, no eye contact, no smile, slightly reluctant service from dreary twenty-somethings who deign to get you a drink, I can highly recommend the Exchange in Hove.
I have been going there for 5 years and universally get poor, unfeeling, robotic service.
The place seems to be run by teenagers who lack any emotional maturity to engage with the public.
I actually asked a female barperson once, if she was aware she worked in the hospitality industry, she merely scowled.
Also the food is very hit and miss. Passable one day and inedible the next.
Try it out. It is consistently the worst service that I have ever experienced in a pub.
There were several posts on TripAdvisor agreeing with what I wrote above and strangely they have now been removed.

There are two pubs round here. The Exchange and The Station. The Station is friendly but sees a lot of people once or twice. I get that the Exchange doesn't get much passing traffic.
That's ok with me.
The decor is a bit shabby but overall it is alright.
There's football on the TVs.
It felt safe - but this is Hove so why wouldn't it?
Not for me though.
