We are about to return for our second session at Safari. I had taken some lessons in Bali last year where I learned the basics, but never managed to catch a wave on my own. The teaching technique at Safari is so much more effective, I was getting a feel for it on my own very quickly. Learning a new sport at 43 can be challenging but the coaches are very encouraging. I don’t plan to ever be an excellent surfer but it’s fun to keep learning in a safe environment. My note on location: If you aren’t staying at the hotel, you can access the surf school from the beach. Our first day, we rode bikes on the busy road to get there and it was pretty terrifying with big trucks zinging by. Ride down the beach and take the trail where there are 2 palapas side by side.

We love everyone at Safari Surf! Jeffrey took such great care of us and got us connected with our surf expert, Pio. After helping us tackle the white waves inside, Pio got these two (old) folks (ha) out in the green waves where we had a blast and experienced the thrill and pura vida of Guillones beach! With patience and expert guidance, Pio guided us out into the green to experience the joy of surfing. We can't wait to go back! Thank, Safari Surf!!

We just enjoyed our first surfing vacation in Nosara, Costa Rica. We had a fantastic experience with Safari Surf, who organized the vast majority of our trip and activies. The staff and instructors were fantastic and were great with our family of 5 (with three teenagers). Tim and Marsi were great to communicate with leading up to our trip, and once we arrived in Costa Rica, the Safari Surf manager Jeffrey made our trip smooth and stress free. From the transfer from/to Liberia airport, to ziplining, dining out, hiking, fishing, surfing (on our own or with instructors), Jeffrey worked with our schedule and was super chill and responsive, a living example of Pura Vida!
We stayed at the Safari Surf partner hotel, Olas Verdes. Luxury where it counts (pools, yoga studio, direct access to the beach), with a friendly staff, great service and awesome food. The fact that it was a LEED platinum hotel made us feel even better about our stay. We also loved the fact that there were no TV's in the rooms. There was a recreation room available, with a large flat screen TV, but our kids never felt the need to visit it. They spent most of their time between the beach and the pool.
We can not recommended Safari Surf highly enough for those who want to spend a vacation relaxing at a surf beach.

I've been working with Safari Surf for over 13 years now. They are amazing. I bring a group of high-school students down for a surf/yoga wellness program and every year the kids have an incredible experience with the folks at Safari. They go above and beyond to help with whatever they can and I have total faith in the instructors, from making safety a priority to really helping my students progress to that next level of surfing. They do this all while truly engaging with each student. They are the best, without a doubt.

Tim and his team (Jeffrey) did an amazing job from the airport pickups to the dinners and the great surf team! We loved this place and having surf safari make it one of our best trips!

To be candid I never read or write reviews. Perhaps Im lazy, or as a small business owner they can be problematic. In the states, people mostly write a review if they are upset with the service. However, if something is a good product or experience and a friend or a person asks me to write a review because it helps him or their business, I’m always happy to and I do it with excitement. However, this review is based on an experience I didn’t expect.
I was an avid surfer when I was younger from 13 years old to about 27 years old. I stopped because it was hard to surf in New Jersey because it’s a production and waves are never consistent. Last year I went surfing and lost all my skills. I was so upset. a best friend of mine who got into surfing because of me, was actively surfing weekly for 20 years. He made a recommendation and my focus was just to learn what I forgot because I truly loved it when I was younger. All the surf instructors are beyond great. I was fortunate to have two people who I clicked with. They were very knowledgeable about surfing but their spirit and kindness I found to be the most helpful. I was able to relax and enjoy it.
Staying 3 weeks, surfing, talking with all the people I got to live in the present. Which I used to always do, without effort or traveling to Tibet. In Nosara I became so enamered, and calm and felt every social interaction was a pleasant one. The atmosphere/culture at Safari Surf its impossible to not be happy….I know, write now im stuck in a narcissistic part of story telling. Ill get there. I went there to get my surf ability back. I haven’t done it in 17 years. That’s the only reason I came. I know nothing about Costa Rica other than it has great surf. And I knew it was near the equator. From my own doing, my first night I had no idea how the logistics where. I couldn’t even find the beach. I got lost walk around the corner of my hotel In addition, my very expensive iphone that we all own was not work correctly. It was about 1 AM. Before a Holler Monkey made me his wife. I called Jeffrey Baltodano – Head of Operations / General Manager without hesitation he helped me home. Showed no emotion of frustration only displaying a genuine smile and a sincere happiness he helped this logistically challenged man ( ME).
I noticed more About the staff: Everyone quickly remembered my name. But what was t impressive and a relief. I didn’t see one employee plaing with their smart phone. In the states its become an idiotic epidemic. Workers don’t look up when youi ask a question. At Safari, they make eye contact and speak clearly and polite and each of the staff members has a unique warm personality. And are just easy to talk to. I’ve traveled to Italy, Hawaii, Jamica, Europe, Zurich, Canada, Panama, and other places. All those countries have good service. However, I can honestly say that Safari Surf has the best service in the world. The place is a well oiled machine, and from what I observed Mr. Jeffrey Baltodano is the main reason. He keeps his employees happy, and they all get along with each other. But at the same time, as a boss or a department head, you have to do unpleasant things. Granted I’m talking about my experience as boss. I think Mr. Baltodano just has a gift others don’t have. Hes immediately likeable and you get a sense of trustworthiness. If he was not there I have a hard time seeing that place run as smooth and perfect as it is now.

We have taken a few surf lessons in the past but nothing compared to the detail and progression given by the instructors at Safari Surf! 120% recommend! Alonzo, Che, Eduardo, and Minton were the best and Jeffery was there for our every need..where to eat, calling a Tuk Tuk etc.. we will be back!!! ❤️❤️

My 19 year-old daughter and I traveled to Nosara for a father-daughter surf trip, on the recommendation of a close friend who has been with his family several times and who raved about Safari Surf School. The entire experience was incredible. Marsi and Tim (the owners/operators) were super responsive and helpful from the time of my first inquiry, and Marsi promptly put together a great itinerary and package that made planning so easy. Once we were onsite, Jeffrey was our point person, and he was exceedingly capable, positive and helpful. And our instructors, Pio and Milton, were excellent, and they helped me scrape off the considerable rust after many years away from the sport, and helped my daughter go from occasional surfer to proficient, surfing the outside. We both caught tons of fun waves, with the added bonus of 84 degree water and beautiful surroundings. For lodging, we stayed at the Ride On Beach House, right next door to the Olas Verdes Hotel and the Safari Surf office. The location, room, pool, food (esp. breakfasts and smoothies) were great, and it has a relaxed and friendly vibe. The short trail walk to the picturesque beach was easy and convenient. And we could easily walk to town to shops and restaurants. Overall, an amazing trip, and we hope to return soon!

The entire Safari Surf School team could not have been more welcoming, generous and helpful! Their instructors are professional, extremely knowledgeable, able to identify areas for improvement, and very encouraging! Safari Surf is now my top recommendation for a surf camp or just surf lessons!

Terrific family vacation. Whole family had so much fun. We were new to surfing and the instructors were terrific. We took two lessons/day which was great but kept us tired. Fantastic beginner waves. Fun teachers. Lovely yoga resort nearby for stretching between the waves. Fun to meet other familes and really enjoyed the family style dinners. Totally recommend!

We booked a house in Nosara and are interested in board rentals and lessons for our three children, ages 5-11. Can we reserve boards and lessons in advance?
We are also still in need of a shuttle service from Liberia to Nosara. Can you recommend?

Go with safari surf school. They will take care of anything you need regardless of your choice of accommodations. They will help you coordinate as much or as little as you need.

They like to make a packet for you, including hotel and a couple of meals per day, usually breakfast (snack/fruit before surfing and big breakfast after) and dinner. Dinner is usually with the group of others who are surfing, which is actually fun. Lunch you are on your own, as one or two nights, depending on your length of stay. They are very flexible and can arrange different packages for you, with several hotel choices (different $$). Everything is close, so no worries about staying too far.
