A very lovely bush walk to a surprisingly beautiful waterfall.
You can walk for hours past it if you're that way inclined, but the waterfall was our destination.
It's a reasonable walk, a good track all the way but a fairly steady climb for much of the outbound journey.
I'm not sure it's wheelchair-friendly, unless you have some strong helpers for the long uphills and occasional water crossings
We were three, late 60s and early 70s, not trampers and not especially fit, and we did it without drama.
You will reach a sign showing top of falls a few minutes further up the track, and a lookout of the lower falls down a steep path.
The top of the falls is virtually just around the corner from the sign, closer than the sign implies. But that's not the best view. You can scarcely see any of the falls from there.
But even if you're tired, take the steep walk down to the viewing platform for the lower part of the falls - it's delightful and well worth the small extra effort.
Photos can't do it justice. I tried to create a vertical panorama and messed up. So my posted photos look pretty ordinary.
It's a very tall, very narrow, two-part fall. The first third lands in a pool, and then spills over into a longer section that disappears into the bush before it strikes the river out of sight.
I could have stood there for an hour just drinking in the sight and the tranquility.
A misty cool day in early winter, we still took our jackets off on the walk. The bush shields you quite well from the wind and the drizzle, and possibly from the summer sun, but if you do it in summer I suggest your bring your togs. These mountain streams are "refreshing", though I didn't see many real swimming holes on this walk. But I'm sure you'd manage.

Beautiful walk in native bush.
It's an easy enough walk with slight elevation at times.
The waterfall is the highlight.
I recommend this as a family event.

Miss 18 and I took off from the car park and enjoyed being in nature. It was an incline the whole way and I’m pretty unfit but survived.
We actually walked past the top of the water fall without realising it so stopping at the look out is perfectly fine.
Surprisingly we did not hear many birds. Saw a fan tail and a koru plant.
Suggest wearing togs for a dip, comfortable shoes and take a water bottle and snack.

Beautiful hiking trails with parking nearby. There are a couple different paths to take from flat to a bit of a climb but nothing extreme.

We dawdled for 100 minutes there and back from the car park at the end of the partly gravelled, partly tarmac road 4km from the turnoff.
Lovely mature nikau provide a shady cover to a well formed path which we walked in jandals, well disinfected at the entrance. Glimpses of a clear river and a gentle but steady incline is rewarded by a good sighting of the double falls at the viewing point.
A very pleasant short walk - popular on a Saturday morning.

Wentworth Valley has long been a family walk for our tribe. It’s an easy walk up to the water fall. Take your swimming outfits/togs if you like a refreshing swim. Sign posted from Wentworth Valley Road. Remember to clean shoes in area provided to help stop the spread of kauri die back a tree disease.

A pleasant, easy walk in NZ native bush, following a beautiful clean stream.
There are old gold mining sites on the way and the walk finishes at a tall waterfall which you can go down to the bottom of.
There is a "swimming hole" early in the walk which young people enjoy.
At the beginning of the walk there are toilet and camping facilities.

This is one of the best Bush hikes Whangamata has to offer, although there are many more which are also great. A steady incline brings you to stunning views back out to sea and a beautiful waterfall. Round trip is a comfortable couple of hours. Well maintained tracks with a couple of bridges to help cross the stream.

After parking the car it took us a leisurely hour to get to the waterfalls through lovely greenery. I would advise to wear trainers or boots as it does get a bit rugged in parts but it is worth tramping up the valley for the scenic views.
