My husband and I have come to El Dorado County for years, and experienced Skinner for the first time just a few years ago. The wines are exceptionable, the grounds and patio beautiful, and the view was to die for. My recommendations for wines include (but are not limited to) Seven Generations (a white), Dry Diggings (a red-GSM) and 1861 (another and exceptional GSM). The only downside this trip was with following the COVID-19 requirements, it was hot on the patio even under the umbrellas; weather was not a problem on our other trips. I highly recommend visiting this winery.

We've been members of Skinner for years and they remain one of our very favorite wineries in the area. Their Rhone style wines are always delicious, we are not white wine drinkers but their varietals are just as good for us as the reds. They have an amazing patio with sweeping views of the countryside that is just as pleasant almost all year round. You can taste inside at the bar or on the patio and take your time savoring their wines.

My wife, a friend and I were searching out that perfect bottle of California wine in Amador county. We were referred to Skinner Winery by another local winery, as well as a local resident. I was our designated driver for the day and was sipping very lightly. At the beginning of the/our tasting at Skinner Winery I told the pourer this information and would only ask for enough wine in the glass to just taste. My wife and friend each had glasses which were generous in their pours. The girl pouring wasn't all that friendly and at the end of our tasting, I decided to purchase a bottle of wine . The pourer retrieved that bottle and sat it on the bar in front of me. Our friend selected her 1 bottle purchase as well. I told the pourer that I would pay for my selected bottle and she asked "do you want the other tasting charge put on my bottle price?" I said "what tasting charge would that be?" She responded that there was a $15 per tasting charge, waived if a bottle of wine was purchased, for each individual. I asked if she was charging me for my tasting - as per my instructions at the beginning of the pour - I wanted a small sampling only being our designated driver. She went and asked her manager and then came back to point out on their tasting menu it clearly stated their policy and yes, we were expected to pay the $15 tasting fee as my wife and I were only going to purchase one bottle of wine. I left the bottle of wine I was going to purchase, my friend left her bottle of wine, we paid the $45 and we left. As I was walking out the door the pourer called me a name. There are many other wineries in the area we visited of which respected our designated driver and small / minimal pours. We won't return to Skinner Winery.

This was our third wine tasting stop and our last. Wonderful tasting and what a view. We were told that we can return with a picnic and use their tables. What a beautiful site. If I were to be having a reception I would check out doing it there!

By far the best wine tasting experience in El Dorado County. Friendly and personable service, amazing views, and most importantly, delicious wine! A Sonoma quality experience, but without the crowds. The wine tasting is free if you purchase wine, and they offer cheese and charcuterie to enjoy with the tasting for a nominal charge. They are also happy to provide recommendations for other wineries or places to get a meal in the area.
This is a "must stop" for anyone that is visiting the area to taste wines.

It's the Wandering Yank here. For my birthday, I asked Mrs. Yank if we could spend the day in the mountains. On the way back, we stopped at Skinner since I'd heard it was very nice. Great idea!
The hilltop view is absolutely stunning, and the indoor-outdoor tasting room takes full advantage of it. There are outdoor tables too, something more wineries should have. A lower level is perfect for picnicking. I thought the wine was very good. They offered 2 flights - the 5 "regular" wines and the 5 "estate" wines, for $10 and $15 respectively (credited with a bottle purchase, with very nice souvenir stem glasses).
Delightful staff too!
It's now at the top or near the top of our favorite wineries in the foothills. 2 enthusiastic thumbs up!

We visited three wineries today. Terra d'Oro Winery was first on the list, followed by Renwood. While at Renwood, folks recommended we head up to Skinner and we are so glad we did! It was only about 15 minutes away and a beautiful drive in the country. Our server Stephanie was wonderful and we really enjoyed all of the wines. The $10 tasting fee is waived with a bottle purchase and you get a free glass too. The setting on top of the hill is spectacular and we would love to return with a picnic. The Six Horse zin for $36 was our favorite. Highly recommend this place!

Traveling with 2 couples, we are delighted to have found this incredible winery. Josh educated us on the Rhone style offerings which we thoroughly enjoyed. Picniced on the patio, joined the wine club and eagerly anticipate returning.

This winery has fabulous wines both red and white. We visited it Thursday and talked with Josh - he was very knowledgeable about the wine, as well as the history of the winery - we thoroughly enjoyed talking with him. And the view from their decks is awesome - you have to visit the winery to appreciate the wines and view
