Have just stayed at Samlesbury in one of their Shepherds Huts to attend a wedding in the hall. Every single thing has been perfect. The accommodation was warm (December) and well presented and extremely comfortable. The wedding took place in the beautiful hall which was exquisitely decorated for the event. The wedding breakfast & the reception were, again, perfect. The food was fantastic, the staff were wonderful and attentive, going out of their way to be extra helpful at every opportunity. This was true of every interaction with the staff whether booking on the phone or face to face in the restaurant or the bar. The entire experience was wonderful. I cannot praise the beautiful Samlesbury Hall enough. The standard of their staff will forevermore be the marker by which others will be judged.

Attended a wedding here. Some more signage and lighting needed in grounds very easy to go wrong way. We arrived at 7:30 and managed to just get the last ? Bottle of prosecco on the premises. Very poor stock management for a wedding venue to run out of bar stock. Unfortunately they also ran out of Bitter and draught Peroni.
The venue was fine and the pizzas were fine. Tables full of glasses and had to resort to returning them to the bar myself .
Not many staff at the venue but I appreciate staffing levels have been difficult to maintain.
Cost of drinks could me more realistic. £9:70 for double rum and draught coke. £30 for a bottle of prosecco.

We were lucky enough to be there to listen to a lighthearted potted history of the house by Witch Janey. We found this very informative and entertaining. The house itself is a pleasure to wander round with written information available. The Waffle House and Heritage Restaurant are both excellent. A great Sunday visit.

Had our first visit today with our junior age children. Playground is great, the boys enjoyed walking around the hall and we had waffles and ice cream. Staff were very friendly, not intrusive and nothing was too much trouble. Please make a donation as it is free to enter and visit, not many places are these days.

We will be back probably for mini golf or lunch next time.❤️😁

We had a lovely time today, we looked around the hall, gained a lot of knowledge on the history of the hall and information on the paranormal thanks to Ian, he is a lovely person and very informative. We also had some very nice food at the cafe where the garden centre used to be. Thanks for a lovely day. I would highly recommend this for a great day.

Checked website to make sure the hall was open . Drove over to visit to be told it was closed for a private function . No mention on website ? Decided on a coffee and went to the cafe approx 10.45....to be informed breakfasts have finished and its too early for lunch whilst being stared at blankly .There were no cakes or biscuits ...nothing to buy . Had coffee listening to the women behind the counter swearing using the F word more than once Extremely unprofessional service ....made to feel like an unwanted hindrance than a valued customer ( As an employer myself I'd dismiss the pair on the spot ) £6.50 for a coke and a coffee . From previous visits...the hall is wonderful....a real treasure . The management and staffing is appalling ....avoid the restaurant at all costs ...its a perfect model on how not to run a business . We wont be returning. M gregson

We recently visited Samlesbury Hall for the first time since lockdown. Previous to this we have visited numerous times and have found the hall to be a pleasant way to spend an hour or so.

We had checked the website prior to travelling and were pleased to see that the restaurant was open and that a free talk at 2pm was due to go ahead.

We arrived shortly before 1 pm. The main door of the hall was open but there wasn't any staff present. We wandered around the house for about twenty minutes. During this time we didn't encounter a single member of staff or any members of the public. Disappointingly, a few of the smaller rooms now appear to be closed, as did the restaurant. We had planned to eat at the hall but the area in which the restaurant used to be appeared closed.

It wasn't until we drove out of the car park we realised that the restaurant is now located at the exit. I think it would be extremely helpful to have some signage up at the hall to advise of the restaurants location. I have since looked at the website again and the location is mentioned on there, however, I feel most people just look at the menu and don't bother to read all the rest of the info. We stopped on exiting to have a look at the restaurant, however it didn't look very inviting so we decided to drive into Clitheroe for lunch instead.

However, before we left we did notice the small waffle cafe where the gift shop and antique sales used to be. Not wanting a waffle we opted for a tea cake and crumpet served with coffee. The coffee was okay but the tea cake was tasteless with very little fruit. My main complaint was that the items came pre -buttered with what tasted like cheap margarine. If the cafe isn't going to invest in pre-packed butter portions they should at least offer butter or margarine in individual dishes, therefore the customer can decide how little or how much they use. Both the crumpets and teacake came saturated in margarine, which is not to our taste.

We were surprised at 2pm to see that the advertised talk went ahead as the hall and the cafe had been empty. At this point we realised that a coach load of pensioners had just turned up presumably for the talk.

This is when a slightly disappointing experience at Samlesbury Hall turned into an extremely disappointing one. Not just disappointing but highly embarrassing. I'm not easily offended, but I do think that there is a time and a place and a talk at a stately home isn't the place where anyone should feel marginalised!

The woman conducting the talk goes by the name Witch Janey. Now I realise that she is trying to be entertaining and has to cater for all age groups, however, I found her humour to be seriously out dated! During her lengthy talk she proceeded to make disparaging remarks about most of today's society, including veganism, religion, same sex relationships and those of a different nationality. Non of which were necessary. Her blatantly sexist and racist jokes belong in an era long ago. Her constant sexual innuendo was seriously out of place during a talk about the history of the hall. She appeared to be taking pleasure in victimising reluctant male participants into joining in her ridiculous antics. She could clearly see that she was embarrassing a poor guy who was simply out for an afternoon with his partner and children, yet she wouldn't leave him alone. Why is it seen to be appropriate in this day and age for women of a certain age to make sexual comments to younger men? If this situation had been the other way around, an older man targeting young females and making comments about their looks it would be seen as highly inappropriate!

After twenty minutes of listening to her performance we walked out. Although the talk was well attended due to the coach party, I don't feel that that many people found her funny. All I witnessed was embarrassed laughter.

As a member of both the National Trust and English Heritage, I've never witnessed anything as tasteless and crass in one of their properties. I suppose you get what you pay for and maybe the management at Samlesbury Hall feel that free entry and a free talk equals outdated inappropriate humor?

We walked out before the end and on our way to the car park we overheard two people complaining about how unfunny the talk had been, both of them men.

I feel that someone from management needs to address this. No one should leave your property feeling victimised and ostracised for simply attending a talk about history. Just because the comments and actions come from a woman it doesn't stop them from being sexist. There is no place for sexism in today's society!

We stayed in a shepherds hut, which was basic but clean.

Only real complaint was that upon arrival we were told that the gate was locked at 8pm and were given a code in order to be able to access the site after hours.

We ordered a taxi at 6:30 and instructed them to pick us up at Salmesbury Hall as we were going out for a meal and upon arrival the taxi couldn’t enter the site via the main entrance. After walking up to the main gate we found it padlocked (key not combination lock) with no way in or out

After walking back to the main house, it was only by luck that we happened upon some staff members who were leaving who advised that there was in fact a second gate (marked as the golf club entrance). This was quite a distance from the main gate and not an easy walk in dress shoes and heels.

This should be made more clear on arrival.
