This is a great spot where you can really connect with nature and anyone else who happens to be nearby. You can also just chill in your hammock, read a book, sip on some Mate, or take a dip in the rio!

A comfortable walk from Tarapoto's Plaza de Armas, this riverside area is a surprising little gem and absolutely worth a visit! It was such a treat to find this garden so close to the centre of town, freely accessible, and disconnected from the hustle and bustle of the motokars so you can really immerse yourself in the sounds of nature. It is a tranquil place and perfect for a relaxing walk or even having a dip in the river. There are a few mosquitoes around though, particularly with the rain, so be prepared!
What makes this place even more special is that it is part of a conservation project run by a group of young locals who have cleaned up and restored this area. When I visited, some of the members were working in the garden and were very welcoming and happy to talk about the garden and the project. The outdoor restaurant, Chacruna's, which is above the garden at street level, is separately run by one of the group members and serves lunch. I tried the ceviche and a juice of 'maracuya', which were both delicious! Worth stopping for food if you time it right :)
