It has a good walking/cycling track and suitable for all ages. The track is mainly gravel and we saw lots of families walking dogs there. The mine is huge and you get different angles if you walk around. The sheer size is remarkable. Some nice information panels to understanding what you are looking at. Its not far from town and not really any parking available, so you can just park in town and walk up. There is not much in the way of shelter, so wear hat, sunblock etc as you are exposed.

Martha Mine Pit Rim Walkway: sizeable Goldmine, NZ, in plain sight? - wow! Rim: walk, hike, run, cycle, take your dog, meet friends. (I have gait/walking challenges (stroke), wear a legbrace.) Impressive, dramatic open cast mine, vast gigantic chasm, gold-mining relics - gold mining process: information-panels dotted around the rim walk, definitely worthwhile visit if you're in the area - Waihi - heart of Gold!

Pleasant and well maintained 4km circuit around the rim of the gold mine with information boards along the way. The open pit mine is impressive in its size. Worth checking out and is suitable for a variety of ages.

If you like looking down large holes and walking through some bush then this is a neat little walk. It’s about 3.5km around. Lots of good stopping places to look deep into the hole.

We didn't do the loop but walked a few hundred metres to both lookouts on the town side. It was interesting to check it out.

A beautiful walk, but not a lot of shade so wear a hat. I felt safe walking as a solo female in the early evening. It took me an hour and a half but I stopped to read about the mine, and also to check out the pit and the pumphouse. It is literally one block from the main drag, but it is quiet and you feel like you’re far away in nature. Highly recommend.

Such an awesome place to visit, so much history and was great to be able to see it all. Definitely a place to stop by and soak in its ambience of mining history.

The walk around Martha Gold Mine is not hard, only a few hilly bits, which takes about an hour at a steady pace. We did it in an hour 30 minutes as we stopped a lot to take in the mine and read the information signs along the way.

Having been thru Waihi many many times we have never taken the time to stop and do this walk until today. What a fabulous experience.... the walk was relatively easy mainly flat with a couple of small inclines..... the walk followed the rim of the pit as much as possible and passed thru some lovely bush with beautiful kauri trees and bush. The oath was well kept and easy to walk on. A wonderful tribute to those 420 men who died in the war with poppies being displayed on the fence.
The pump house was moved in 2006 300m from its original site as it was in danger of collapsing. They moved the 2,000 tonne concrete building in its entirety by rolling it along on concrete boulders. Amazing engineering.
Thoroughly recommend this walk to everyone.

Comfortable, easy way to see the mine and learn and learn about its past and development to where it is now and future plans. They also give you core samples of quarts rock. See how mining can rehabilitate the land cape.

Which is the closest entry point with car park where you can get the best view of the mine?

Agree with above. There are quite a few places where you can get quite close to the rim with a car. You could park near the old Cornish Engine House and walk from there.
