NJP Railway station, an entrance to North East India is the busiest staion in Siliguri. I travelled to this station from Sealdah Station, Kolkata for going to Gangtok.
It has so many modern facilities like; Display, speaker, stairs, Escalator, waiting room (Ac/Non AC), Chargeable Executive lounge (Mainly in Platform No. 1) seating arrangements, Lift, RPF booth, Drinking water, Tea stall, Parking, travel car for Senior Citizen etc. Bike and car parking available. for the benefits of the passengers.
This station is the gate way to popular Hill Stations like Darjeeling, Kalimpong & Gangtok. Share and Private hire Jeep & Car is available for Darjeeling, Kalimpong & Gangtok and to all popular tourist attractions.
Yesterday I again came here to board Kranti Express for going to Guwahati.

As usual, in front of the station you would find hundreds of drivers swarming to get your deal. We wanted to go to Gajaldoba. One of the auto drivers said that he would do it in 600 but then someone else got in, claimed to be the owner of the auto and said that the price was 1500. We got down immediately (a bit away from the station). Right there, we found Pradip Saha. It was the NJP Netaji More Stand. With his battery-operated auto, he was more than happy to take us to Gajaldoba (5 pax) for 500! Thanks to him, we could comfortably reach Boroli Resort, Gajaldoba without any problem or burning a hole in our pockets.

After I reached NJP station, some hawkers convinced me to visit "Watch India tours and Travels" which was my Biggest Mistake.
NEVER EVER visit "Watch India tours and Travels" else you would be looted for sure.
This place is full of fraud/Cheat people who would ask you for advance money without providing any service. Once you pay advance they will leave you midway & never answer your call. They would ask for service charge which is irrelevant.
I was dumped of more than 10k here by Vinay Thakur.

NJP Railway is good for tourists who want to visit nearby hills station. But beware of tours and travel operators. One SUV appearing to be ready to move, may charge you high amount for the comfort but after collecting fares (Normal fare Rs. 300/- or 350/-), you will be charged Rs. 400/- or 500/-. But as soon as all passengers pay full amount they may have to travel in a shared Tata Sumo. Take care to travel with a taxi which bears Sikkim Registration for travel to Gangtok, or West Bengal Registration for travel to Darjeeling. And pay 50% after you reach your destination. Otherwise chances are you will be scamed. Such incidents are common in this railway station area and these vehicles are indulged in such activities. Take care! Happy Journey!!

Commonly known as NJP, the station is generally clean. Vendors at the station try to sell tea of average quality in packets. There was a time when similar vendors tried to sell spurious liquor. Then this was a place to buy smuggled Chinese stuff. These are history now.

Good housekeeping neat & clean platforms. The FOB is bit congested now require extension. The biggie number display units are not working in many platforms causing huge problems to customers which require immediate attention.
Outside station can have plenty of vehicles available to travel to Darjeeling or Gangtok. Both options available either reserve full car or sharing basis.

New Jalpaiguri (NJP) is a railway station situated in Dabgram, just a bit outskirt of the Siliguri town in the Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. After partition (1947) Siliguri gained in importance as the gateway to North Bengal. By 1964, New Jalpaiguri railway station have become the most important railway station and one of the main entry points of Siliguri.
New Jalpaiguri railway station is connected to almost all parts of the country. It is a busiest railway station having AC and non-AC retiring rooms, IRCTC and other private restaurants. Taxis, autorickshaws, battery operated e-rickshaws(toto) and rickshaws are available from the exit gates of railways station to anywhere in this region.

New Jalpaiguri (known as NJP) known as the gateway of North Bengal. It is the entry point towards hill station like Darjeeling and beautiful Sikkim.
Big station with full of peoples from all over the country.
Communication towards city (Siliguiri ) -Not so good. Only shared auto and battery car can be hired. Rented car towards Darjeeling and Sikkim is available outside the station.
There is a food court inside the station.

I am travelling to NJP end of April and already booked a retiring room for myself and my wife. Being senior citizens whether it will be comfortable to stay there? our concern is cleanliness and condtions of the toilet.
if somebody stayed there please advise

Thanks for your question.
I am very much sorry to inform you that I did not use any retiring room in NJP station. Normally I reached there in the morning by traveling overnight train from Kolkata. So I did not need to stay there.
