This place is just incredible. I highly recommend the audio guide and climbing to the well tower for some amazing views of the grounds. I also recommend saving enough energy to walk through the gardens to take a closer look at the fountains.

A surprising discovery for a castle whose history is beautifully staged by the audio guide.
Throughout the story and visit we are immersed in the history of Fouquet.

It’s weird to read reviews from people who don’t appreciate the settings in the castle at Christmas time. In this case it is indeed better to go outside this period. As far as we are concerned, with children of 4 and 8 years it was enchanting. Each room that presents a different tale and fireplace crackling. We were probably lucky this morning, few people. It was like a dream

When money takes precedence over history it gives the viscount worth
The castle is pretty
Garden soil from the reflection basin to the hercules leaves something to be desired and is sometimes dangerous
To visit the castle many times I see the reception deteriorate as well as the quality of the service
If in the past costume demonstrations have been lavish, the total organization falls into disuse
As for the association of friends of values the viscount, it has no interest in bearing the cost for a year
I was forced to moderate my opinion following Vior’s request but this moderation is only 1% of the anger I feel today against the whole organization and the priority given to giving money to the history lunatic
We can not have been and Mr. Marquis it is time to take the consequences

The entrance fee is very high. The Christmas decorations hide the decorations of the castle. It’s a shame because department stores offer similar decorations and that’s not what makes this place appealing. The music played outdoors gives a Disneyland side. Quite to make cultural places attractive but not to the point of not being able to discover them. The rooms are covered with plastic...at almost 100 euros budget for a family it’s a shame...the Christmas period is therefore to be avoided so as not to be in a shopping gallery atmosphere and be able to appreciate the original decor.

We went with family to five people to visit the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte, on Thursday, December 26, 2024 , my daughter had booked for the 12 hour visit.
What's a shame is that for the first screening time on the castle it took 18 hours, we can't go out to come back , our tickets will no longer be valid .No toilet after 17 hours because of the screening . Can't drink something hot there are so few points catering drinks and a queue, I let you imagine.
Despite all this we are satisfied with our day but .......
After the 6:00 p.m. screening we leave and we decide to go through the ice rink, at which point I say to my husband, it's really dark they could turn on the lights that's when I tripped, hovering over a brazier
off, which we haven't seen. My husband giving me the hand also lost balance. Result 2 knees I was already suffering from, my left shoulder , my thigh and the shock was so violent that 9 days later I went to the doctor because I had a very bad stomach ache , indeed the brazier having entered my stomach I had a big hematoma . A young girl who was doing the traffic called a person it seems a fireman (you laugh ) no way to live and no use . Hoping this one brings a wheelchair following my request. The unkind guy without any empathy asks me what is going on, I tell him I have trouble walking he answers me
Ma'am, if you can walk, it's because you don't hurt that much.
We find it shameful as well as my doctor that there is no medical service there,
Imagine a person with a heart attack, stroke etc.... I'll let you guess the rest.

Beautiful castle but be careful at the reception. We arrived on Saturday 28/12 with a temperature of -2 degrees. The person to whom we give our e-tickets asks my husband and my 12-year-old daughter to wait outside in the cold so as not to crowd the queue but we were alone with no one behind us... So thank you for adapting your speech to situations. Poor reception also at the rink, it's a shame. However, we took full advantage of the Magnificent decorations of the rooms of the castle on the theme of Tales. Great show inside the castle, congratulations to the actors! Beautiful show of sound and lights at the end of the day, a narrator would have been a plus.

There are two of us, mother and daughter, passionate about History.
We discovered the Château de Vaux le Vicomte three years ago, and we visited it every year in summer.
While in the area this winter, we wanted to take a walk to see this splendor again.
Big disappointment at the sight of the castle Instagram posts (which we were following before the incident) due to the abusive Christmas decorations that absolutely ruin the building.
This is a huge disrespect to history. (Because do not correspond in any way to History and period settings...)
(The pieces are disfigured, the decorations hide everything), but, let's pass.
The worst is to follow;
(i.e. the site is not clear...)
The day before, we saw on the castle site "mandatory reservations for Christmas", we thought that this only concerned special visits for Christmas and not for single visits. (Whether we thought we could buy at the counter like other castles (private or not)).
Once we arrived, after more than 600km, we waited for more than an hour at the ticket office, without the possibility of buying a ticket.
The reason? You had to take a ticket online (because of these pitiful Christmas decorations.)
We waited like miserable people behind a poor barrier, waiting for a line of more than a hundred people to scan their tickets, only to be mistaken for the worst kind by an employee. (Which tells us with a haughty air "you will pass once all those who have booked pass")
Then we quickly left. In view of the world and these odious decorations, we would not have appreciated this visit anyway, which nevertheless paid a beautiful tribute to Fouquet.
TO ESCAPE ABSOLUTELY!!
That’s not what it used to be!
We will never go back and we will try to tell this story to a large world who also enjoyed visiting this castle.

Extraordinary day. A dive into history. The way up to the extraordinary Dome, the view of the roof, stairs is fantastic (what a goldsmith's work on wood a single word: majestic)
The view of the gardens prospects: splendid. Interior decorations: breathtaking.
Evening illuminations: more words for the experienced sensation. Respect for the designer , director and staff. I'll have a lot to say, but I'll stop there.

Our visit to the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte during the Christmas event was a really special experience. Even arriving at the impressive property was a treat: The castle and the extensive gardens worked almost magically in the wintry atmosphere. The festive decoration was perfectly matched to the historic ambience, with magnificent Christmas trees, lovingly designed lights and classic decorations that gave the castle a particularly elegant and festive atmosphere.
The magnificent interiors we visited were also beautifully immersed in the Christmas spirit. The rooms were festively decorated, and the combination of antique furniture and festive lighting created a very special atmosphere. Particularly impressive was the magnificent Christmas exhibition, which gave insights into the traditions and celebrations of times gone by – a perfect end to a visit to such a majestic place.
Even the gardens, which are certainly breathtaking in summer, had their own charm in winter. The festively illuminated paths and the winter tranquility made the walk through the park an atmospheric experience.
Overall, the Christmas event at the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte was a wonderful opportunity to experience this historic gem from a completely different angle. The festive atmosphere, coupled with the impressive architecture and artfully designed interiors, made the visit an unforgettable experience. A really recommended place for anyone looking for something special!

bonjour, sommes venus le samedi 10 JUIN 2023 pour le diner aux chandelles . on nous a fait attendre avec notre groupe sous une pluie battante pour nous faire entrer dans la cour coté groupe et handicapés.personnel incapable de nous diriger vers le bon restaurant , nous renvoyant par trois ou quatres fois d'un restaurant à un autre . refaisant plusieurs fois le tour du chateau sous une pluie battante. rien de prévu pour les personnes à mobilité réduite. au restaurant éphémère , l'accueuil laisse plutot à désirer. quand à vouloir se laver les mains , ou aller aux toilettes , 4 étages avec de hautes marches , impratiquables pour des personnes agées , rien de prévu pour des fauteuils roulants . nous avons trouvé incroyable et scandaleux que le personnel soit incapable de renseigner et guider les visiteurs . une déception totale et un carton rouge bien mérité. aucune considération pour les personnes agées .

We will be in Paris in a few weeks and we’re considering a visit to Vaux le Vicomte. The website indicates timed tickets must be purchased ahead but the only time slot shown on weekdays (through at least August) is 11 am, even though everything indicates the chateau is open until 5:30 daily. Is there really only one tour time daily, or is the time of entry not actually restricted on weekdays?

You may be better off joining a tour. That eliminates the timed entry issue. I had a good experience last week with Blue Fox Tours based in Paris. It will also eliminate the challenges in getting to the chateau. It's out in the country and I think it would hard to find.

We are planning to attend on a Saturday, May 28, to see the chateau and gardens in the late afternoon and then the candles in the evening.
1. Are the cart rentals to tour the gardens only available until 4pm or are they available later on Saturdays? Someone in our group has mobility challenges so we want to make sure they can enjoy the gardens via a cart.
2. I read that access to the first floor of the chateau closes early for the illumination events. What time are visitors not able to access the first floor (or any portion of the areas that are otherwise accessible)?
3. What time will the fireworks start (sunset is 9:39 on May 28)?

J’aimerais savoir si cela vaut le coup d’y aller le soir sachant que le jardin semble dans le noir et pas éclairé ?
Même question pour le coin pique-nique si la nuit tombe à 19h30 ? Faut-il alors diner au self-service Le Relais de l’Ecureuil ?

Vaux le Vicomte est réputé pour ses soirées aux chandelles le samedi soir (château et jardin), précédées de jeux d'eau (fontaines) et avant un feu d'artifice de qualité. Pour une visite le soir c'est plus agréable (pas d'autres éclairages), mais il ne reste que 2 week-ends pour en profiter (jusqu'au 3 octobre).

Not required at all. However, I do recommend that since French casual often runs more elegant than casual in the United States, you probably want to dress appropriately— if only for your own photo opportunities and the spirit of the Château’s original period! Comfortable walking shoes for spending the day there probably merit more attention than the clothing.
