Beautiful surroundings to the reservoir. Car parks at North end. Once at reservoir side, well made path on easy gradients. Bit short on bins but that is picky in the context of the spectacular North Yorks moors scenery. About 1.5m around 1 lap

headed up here from Swainby. Lovely short walk with the teenage family and dog. Parking limited and not much in way of facilities. Headed down to Osmotherly for pub lunch. Very disappointed as all bar the queen Catherine were closed and service at the Queen was woeful. Most beers were off and you had to wait 20 mins before you were even allowed to order

This is a lovely spot for a walk and we were also happy to stumble across an ice cream van in the car park.
The circular walk is short and easy going but offers a great setting off point for a number of other more lengthy and challenging walks in this beautiful part of the world.

You can either park in the pretty village of Osmotherley and walk to the reservoir, which takes about 20 minutes, (all on a quite road), or you can drive to the northern end of the reservoir, where you will find a small car park.
It is about one and a half miles to walk around.
The path is well maintained, wide and level.
Great for all ages to wander around and for dogs to jump in and out of the water. Chunky wooden benches are located along the path. Lovely views of the reservoir and surrounding area.

We hiked the Lyke Wake Walk across 2 days over the May bank holiday weekend, starting in Ravenscar and finishing in Osmotherley at Cod Beck Reservoir.
We walked along the Cleveland Way from Bloworth Crossing until near Osmotherley, when we left this trail to walk along the road for a few kilometres to finish near Cod Beck Reservoir at the stone marker there.
Afterwards we went for a quick stroll along by the reservoir as we were waiting for our lift. Even after 7pm on a monday evening the carpark was still busy and there were lots of other people out and about enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful views across the water. This is such a gorgeous place for a stroll, but we don't visit as often as I would like to, unfortunately due to its popularity! We prefer quieter routes. But if you want to walk somewhere beautiful on a sunny day for an hour or so along good, flat paths then this is the place for you! Very popular with families and dogs who like to picnic by the water and go swimming.
Note: the carparks are very small and often full, but do not park along the grass verges as you will be fined!

A walkway has been put in place around the reservoir which hasn’t spoiled it on bit. It’s not a long walk, around a mile, but can be extended by heading off up one of the paths leading away, although they can be muddy in places. It looks like more work is being done to improve the area as well. The scenery is very pretty, but can get busy at weekends, with the smallish car park soon full, which means the village gets clogged up.
Don’t park on verges or you may get a fine.
We heard a cuckoo & saw lots of wildlife, including a large family of geese with around 20 goslings.

A flurry of my pals were posting on social media about Cod Beck Reservoir over the Summer of 2020. I decided to see what the fuss was about. On the day I visited the weather was a little bit cold and alternating between sunny and dull. I found the reservoir to be just okay. Maybe the weather was letting it down? Maybe I've been to nicer masses of water? It was nice to get a bit of exercise though and take a few snaps. Free but limited parking.

Usually a lovely walk but during Lockdown, some problems with the One Way System that was supposed to be in place. From the small car park, only one small notice (on one of the gates) made it clear that there was a one way system (and please keep a safe distance), but none on the other gate (that was supposed to be the exit, but lots of people were using as the entrance) and no notices on the way around. Only half of the visitors obeyed the OWS and lots didn't even bother to keep to 2m away from others. So, if you're nervous about the current situation, sadly, I can't recommend a visit here. We visited on a Friday but I know that it's always much busier on weekends, so can't see this being any easier then.

What a lovely relaxing place to take a walk. There is a small car park but I imagine it gets very busy during weekends or holidays, we parked in Osmotherley and walked up, taking around 29 mins. The loop walk around the reservoir takes about 40 mins on a very decent path, there are also benches dotted about to sit and take in the view and also the lovely peace and quiet!

Are there picnic benches there?

Sadly over the years previous tourists have burnt the benches and tables provided by Yorkshire Water, to cook their barbecues on, but happily that has improved since supermarkets now sell the cheap disposable ones. It is helpful if they are soaked/extinguished, rather than left hot, as they can cause fires even in the two big metal bins Hambleton District Council kindly provide for rubbish in the small car park. Please enjoy the countryside responsibly, its a lovely place.

A timely word of warning, meant kindly: Access to Cod Beck Reservoir. The parking area is too popular - so the cars parked on the roadside incur fines as it is a well marked narrow clearway used by modern farming vehicles.
The un-fenced area is farmland, used for grazing cattle and sheep that come to Cod Beck to drink and mess. It is not a Town Park so has no cafe or toilets. The landowner farmers will not provide larger car parks as they have to put up with massive litter problems and fuel pollution. Because of the "Blind Summit" section of road accidents happen involving animals. Hazards also include adders and Lyme Disease infected tics. If you would like modern basic conveniences and cafe for your family, and a lovely river to paddle in, Swainby is excellent and about a mile away, off the Stokesley road A172. Please enjoy the countryside responsibly.

Theres a tiny car park for about 4 cars, and theres hundreds of slots on the verges the council have deliberaltely stoned out to catch people parking there so they can fine you the 2nd you get out of your car, don;t waste your time visiting their unless you go at about 4am and can get one of the few parking spaces unless your happy to pay £70 in fines

Can anyone advise on the suitability of the walk around the reservoir for someone with mobility issues please? Is it wheelchair/push chair accessible? And are there any/many hills on the way round? Thanks.

Not many hills as such, there is a marked walk way but you may struggle getting through the push gate as it only half opens (one of the old fashioned kissing gates) if you can get past that it's fairly flat all the way round but it will be bumpy!

Linda - your comment on the car parking is misleading - yes the car park at the top of the reservoir is tiny, but there is a much larger on about 100m away. We go to Cod beck year round and have never failed to get parked. Just go early on hot summer weekends and you will be OK

Agree with comment above - the original car park is small...but a new cark park was built a few years ago and is only a couple of hundred yards further on - and access to the reservoir is easy by going along the river and avoiding the road.
Is there any carp in the reservoir ? And if so can you fish it ?
Fishing is free as far as im aware. Fished it many times. The majority of people fish for pike. But it also has roach, perch and trout in. Not sure about carp but its likely some are in along with other course species
