We both enjoyed our trip and were glad we had a guide with us to make the experience even more interesting. Despite not being great with heights our walk was fantastic, so much to see including huge birds of prey overhead and pigeons taking refuge in the gorge walls. All along the way our guide explained how life was for those who initially built the Caminito and how a family once lived there, children used the old path to get to and from school. It is important to wear sensible walking shoes and to take plenty of water along, there are a number of steps so care needs to be taken. We loved it 😍

Parked at the north car park and caught the bus… sighing when we got off the bus was not that obvious other than a poster on the wall… you have to walk back up the 250m road and thru a tunnel…we seemed to be the only ones who did this.
Ended up going on group 45min or so before our anticipated one in the afternoon which was ok.. even though we started at 3:10pm, I would not say it was too hot.
There are toilets at the start, though there are none for the next 3 hours. Groups wear hard hats., and wear headsets.. we had Pepe, though after 30mins I found her tone quite childish, especially when came to a quiz..
The walk itself was really good.. with most of it being downhill… some really good views along the canyon and animals around as well both birds and goats.
When you get to the bridge, it is more recession going over as you do not have time to stay on the bridge or take photos and you just walk across… However it’s impressive when you look at it from afar.
Ironically the hardest part of the walk was the walk from the bridge to where the bus stops… It is about 300 m from the bridge to where you drop off the headset… Another 300 m to where you drop off the hats… And then a further 300 m to get to the bus stop itself
Trip back is about 10 minutes and wind back up to the north car park
Certainly something to do, and highly recommended.
Loved to have had a leader a bit more engaging..
Strangely we had vertigo on the following morning, being unable to walk straight… though passed after 4-5 hours.

Reservation made for a guided tour in English..... everything is perfect, the pick-up, transport and accompaniment of Stefano!! His anecdotes, his culture and even his essays in French allowed us to discover this extraordinary place!!! Thank you Stefano!.. of course everything is more expensive than in autonomy, but we do not regret our choice....

Beautiful walk. To do. Absolutely not difficult. We bought our ticks via the site (not easy to book , it looks like everything is done with a Guide) and made the walk by ourselves. 11,50€ for the ride and the return bus. Check-out is at Ardales north side. Close to the restaurant El Kiosko, a 1 st tunnel leads to the entrance, a little further on is a 2 nd small tunnel that leads in 10 min to the entrance. In front of the entrance, there is a toilet. The walk is great...beautiful views!! At the end of the route, a little further away, there is enough to have a drink and eat. 500m + away is the bus back to the parking lot or Check-out point.

I can only recommend booking the ticket, bus and parking online in advance. It is recommended to be at the “CENTRO RECEPCION VISITANTES CAMINITO DEL REY” visitor centre about one hour before the start of the tour. This lead time is actually needed. From the visitor centre, buses run regularly north to the stop “Restaurante El Kiosko”. Once there you go a little bit back in a southerly direction, you come to a pedestrian tunnel and then to a gravel road that leads to the north entrance (walking time about 20min.). At the entrance you are divided into 2 groups (Spanish and English) and equipped with a radio receiver and helmet. In the group you then hike through the gorge together with a guide. The whole thing is quite mass tourism, but the crowd is handled quite professionally. The gorge itself is very worth seeing and was a great experience. After the tour (about 2h) you walk on a road to the next village where the bus stop is and you are transported back to the visitor center

The Caminito del Rey is one of the most exciting and spectacular experiences in Andalusia. Located in the Gaitanes Gorge, near the town of Alora, Malaga, this trail offers breathtaking scenery and a unique sense of adventure, ideal for nature and adrenaline lovers.
The tour, which is approximately 8 kilometers long, takes place through a walkway built along vertical walls that hang over the Guadalhorce River, offering panoramic views of the canyons and the river that winds between the mountains. One of the most exciting moments is crossing the famous suspension bridge, which leaves you suspended more than 100 meters high, providing an experience that cuts your breath both for its beauty and for the excitement it generates.
Although it is known as one of the most "dangerous" trails in the world for its history, after its complete renovation it is now a safe route, with firm walkways and security systems that allow you to enjoy the landscape without worry. The route is not only striking for its natural environment, but also for the feeling of walking on a historical engineering site, as it was originally built to facilitate access to a hydroelectric power plant.
El Caminito del Rey also stands out for its great ecological value and biodiversity. Along the way, it is possible to observe a variety of native flora and fauna, such as lion vultures plying the sky or mountain goats inhabiting the highest areas of the rocks.
The organization and maintenance of the place are impeccable. From arrival, the access system and explanations from the staff help to make the experience smooth and enjoyable. It is advisable to book in advance, as access is limited to ensure a comfortable and safe visit.
In short, Caminito del Rey is an essential experience for those who visit Malaga. With its spectacular landscapes, fascinating history and the thrill of walking on one of the most impressive trails in Spain, it is an adventure that combines nature, adrenaline and beauty at every step. Highly recommended!

Is it possible to do sections of the Camino rather than the whole 3.5hr trek?
I will be 15 weeks pregnant when going so just checking if this would be an option in case I'm not able for the full trek.

Barbara

Hi, is it very scary for a person afraid of hight? Plus how many steps (more or less how many floors) are there to walk up? Are the stairs very scary?
The are no real steps on the walk, just at the end, after the suspension bridge. The bits along the cliff part of the walk is very solid. It all depends on how afraid of heights you are, probably the worst bit would be the suspension bridge at the end. The final stairs are vey solid.

Si, termina a El Chorro e si consegna tutto a fine percorso. Bellissimo.
