A fabulous, and unexpectedly luxurious, place to stay in the jungle. We drove up from Singapore in around 5 hours for a weekend visit and were then lost in beautiful forests and nature. We took several of the guided treks, with the guides keen to provide insights into the local flora and fauna. The food was plentiful and good quality, while service was friendly and welcoming. Best of all was waking up to the uninterrupted view over the jungle and river, with the odd monkey gambolling around outside.

20/08/2024…1.00 noon…
Early July 2024, I just had an idea of rejuvenating my solo-camps nostalgia before the Covid Pandemic put a stop to the all travelling activities. So, I was wandering where I should go and then Tioman and Endau Rompin just popped up from nowhere into my mind. I planned such a way, so that I will be sleeping in a tent and cooking my meals for my entire trip. So, I packed and took off in a bus which arrived at Mersing on 7th August, 2024. While I was in Tioman, I booked the Rainforest Lodge for 4 nights and 5 days. On the 11th of August I took a private taxi from Tg. Gemok also known as Tg. Genting, Kuala Rompin to Endau-Rompin Forrest Lodge. The road was fine and the journey took about 40 mins via taxi. On arrival I was greeted by Mr Fazli the manager of the lodge and served me a refreshing fresh guava juice. He was very friendly and competent to process my registration very efficiently. He was assisted by the bubbly Mr Amir. Then I was given briefing on the do’s and don’ts while staying at the Lodge. They explained why I was not allowed to camp alone in the forest. According to them, due to the nature of the forest, where wild animals such as elephants, panthers, and tigers were sighted frequently, and safety precautions of the patrons is the Lodge Management’s top priority. Mr. Fazli’s briefing was very clear and direct to the points. Later I was served a vegetarian meal upon my request. The meal was satisfactory, in fact, they were excellent and kudos to Chef Zahar and his assistant Chef Rohaya for preparing vegetarian meals especially for me. They even cooked curry for me. Chef Rohaya’s bubur was really very delicious. Mr Amir and Mr Jack were the waiters and very helpful at the restaurant. The lodge serves three meals per day, breakfast, lunch and dinner. At 3.00 pm, I went and checked my designated room. I was surprised to see the room was very large even for two occupants, very clean, the bathroom was spacious, electric kettle was provided, the essentials for making coffee and tea were also there. I was very pleased with the room. After a quick rest, at 5.00 pm, I went to explore the lodge’s surroundings. The path was easily accessible, the hanging bridge was awesome, connected to the watch tower. Public toilet was also available in the compound and a few other sports facilities. I was surprised to come across a huge camping area which easily could accommodate 10-15 tents. If there are groups consist of more than 8 pax, then outdoor camping is allowed. Well-equipped multipurpose hall is nearby for the utilization of the campers.
The following day I started my early morning walk at 7.00 am, the mist was refreshing, again I refrained myself not to wander off too far from the lodge. The forest was thick with huge trees whereby I experienced the presence of small animals, saw fresh footprints of elephants and tapir. After breakfast, I joined a small group of two European families for a 4 hours jungle trekking. Again the briefing was excellent, the clothing, essentials to carry and rules to follow. After 90 minutes of trekking, we came across a wonderful waterfall. Again we were briefed and allowed to refresh and swim near the fall. The experience was astonishing. We returned to the lodge by 4.30 pm. For safety reasons all guided tours cease at 5.00 pm.
On the third day I tried boat tour. Again the briefing was good. The boat tour includes a 15 minutes’ walk along the river, sometimes in the water and the end was fabulous. There was a small pool, and we were encouraged to take a dip. The water was crystal clear and I enjoyed swimming for about 30 mins. The guides were simply exceptionally caring towards the needs of the tourist, they provided music and hot black tea plus biscuits. Hats off to Mr Ashraf and Mr Raha, my guides. They were humble, kind, very well trained in their respective duties.
My overall experience at the Rainforest Lodge, Endau Rompin, can be concluded as shown in the table below;

A fantastic facility, I was here with a school group organised by World Challenge. The guides were brilliant and knowledgeable. The treks were very organised and the accommodation was brilliant. They went out of their way to make us feel at home. The night walk was superb, seeing snakes, scorpions and spiders and coming back with lots of information about these insects.
The restaurant is reasonably priced and the gift shop is cheap and full of good souvenirs.
I think the landscape is stunning and there are hidden gems all through the national park.
Thanks to Rashid and his team for making it such an amazing experience for Kimbolton School.

The staff are very friendly and helpful, especially Bidin and rasheed (unsure of the spelling). Definitely capable of providing an amazing experience as they showed with our 3 day stay. They have great awareness and knowledge and have a good way of presenting this to students/ others. Honestly one of the best places I've ever been to and that's all thanks to Rasheed, Bidin and others for providing such a great environment and treating us in the manner of family/friends. Hopefully will return in the future, definitely on my list of places to go!! - Thevi (திவி)

Rompin rainforest lodge
Loved the place, people and food.
We planned our trip last minute and was made possible by the quick response of the people at the lodge.
We requested to be picked up at JB around 4.30AM Saturday morning and reached at 8 AM.
We availed guided tours, one starts at 9.00 AM after break fast and the other 2.00 PM after lunch. The website has the details on the what to expect and prepare for.
We had immense fun kayaking and hiking. Due to our last minute plan, we were not prepared to get completely wet. Needs two pairs of fresh clothes, socks and shoes for each activity.
There was buffet for the breakfast, lunch and dinner on Saturday, and for the breakfast on Sunday. I was happy with vegetarian options which also had a decent taste.
The room - Rainforest Lodge 1 was very spacious and cozy.
- Loved the mattress and pillows, as they were just enough firm.
- Felt like a blessing to use hot water shower after each activity
Overall, very happy with the customer service. Beautiful untamed place and perfect to disconnect from the world (no mobile network). 2days and 1 night felt like 2 weeks of vacation :)

Amazing place in the middle of the jungle and Malaysian primary forest!
The staff is lovely, the cuisine excellent, the bungalows very comfortable with a view of the forest and the sound of the jungle to fall asleep.
Treks are quite accessible and guides interesting.
A place off the tourist trails that deserves to stop there!

We visited TNR recently and is our first trip to a tropical National Park. From Australia, we have been to various national parks around the world, and was truly impressed by the facilities and surrounding dense forest. One section of the forest has these gigantic palm trees that dates back to the Jurassic period. There were also lots of pitcher plants in another section. All the staff were superb and friendly, including catering staff, guides, etc. Food is nice and they cater for both local style as well as western food. The chef came out each meal time to make sure all is good. We even asked for more stir fried vege and the cook obliged. Faiz, the manager, was very engaging, helpful and made sure we have everything we need and that we are enjoying ourselves. All up has been a very pleasant trip and if you are thinking of a tropical rain forest getaway but still with some creature comfort and nice friendly staff, TNR does not dissapoint, at least not for us.
