A gorgeous exploration of history. Whilst the site is not particularly accessible friendly it has options for those who require, there are accessible parking options , though slim down hill and lifts galore it’s a long steep walk down (and back) but worth it if able, the centre are wonderful and full of great information and stunning views of the Clyde, I’d suggest the attractions need some updating to the standard of today ( mannequins, the Annie ride) as they are showing wear BUT all said we had a very enjoyable day, the hotel looks stunning and we are local but will be back to stay and spend a few days .

Disappointed ☹️
Didn’t go into the centre but only the shop. Had expected more in the way of heritage type materials such as books. Also expected more in the way of educational resources for families. Instead there was a random selection of women’s clothes. Seems like a lost opportunity.

Smashing place, luckily I have been before as this time the expense of parking and the lack of access for those
with difficulties walking made me turn around in the car park and come away again.
It doesn't make it clear at the top of the steep hill how anyone with mobility problems can get down. If not able to get a Disability Permit then so many places are problematic, it's such a shame.

There’s a number of industrial world heritage sites in the U.K. and New Lanark bears some resemblance to Saltaire and Derwent Valley Mills. In contrast to the latter some serious money and commitment has spent of developing this one. It provides good insight into working conditions but is particularly good at providing information on the philanthropist behind its development. It is a little pricey at £15 for adult entry and some things are a little bit child orientated or lacking in wow. This site also sits on a stretch of stunning river - there is a decent walk to be had to view some waterfalls

Very nice historical ensemble.
The design in the museum is very interesting and informative, entertaining and very well done.
You get a good impression of the living conditions of the time.
Entire complex very well maintained and you can enjoy nature. Admission not cheap, but you get something offered for the money. Highly recommended!

We arrived at 15-15 and as there was 4 adults found it was expensive though the till guy said the twilight rate at 15-30 was only £4 quid each and that we had 1 hour so we popped to the cafe for a quick ice cream and did the tour. For us, the hour was sufficient and we all really enjoyed it finding it incredibly informative. The weather was great and enhanced the experience as we wandered around the site after doing the 12 minute ride to appreciate how the mills were a revolution in the treatment of the workers. Robert Owen was the innovator and was way ahead of his time-the grandfather of the TUC and perhaps even socialism.
It’s well worth a visit.

It is a really nice area. Interesting history. But thought it was all a bit pricey. £3 for parking. £3 for two drinks. And £26 odd for a walking tour for one adult one child. Thought the tour was a waste of money to be honest but live and learn.

What a well designed and informative "museum" - hate to call it that. Whilst I learnt about Robert Owen many years ago doing History at school I found out much more by visiting the site. Loved the "ride" and story of mill life told by a "worker"...very interesting methods. Also the machinery and the hydro power.
The other buildings opened up to see more and watch films is excellent.
Not sure about the "Time Zone" installation but I think it could be a fun way to enage with the history/story of the site.

We spent an amazing day in New Lanark last weekend. The reception staff were very welcoming and helpful with their recommendations as we were a little bit short on time. The interactive part of the museum was fun and we really enjoyed the views from the rooftop terrace. We took a tour at 3pm with Lydia and she was great, very entertaining and had great knowledge of the place and history, probably the best part of our day. After that we went for a short walk along the river, it is such a beautiful place. Shame we had to leave and we missed a cute local market because it was a bit late in the afternoon, but we will definitely come back and stay at the hotel for a weekend. Highly recommend it! :))

Did anyone fight the £60 parking charge? I took a ticket off someone else and then have had through the post a £60 fine. Husband says not to pay it as we had a valid ticket for the time we were there..however I do not still have the ticket.

Tried to tell them signs were not seen. They might have added signs since then. I haven't been back to look. Don't intend returning there anymore. Had no sympathy at all from the Historic Scotland site or the ticketing crowd.

Thanks, so the issue is if I arrive promptly at 4 PM and they close at 5PM, do they make everyone exit before 5 PM, or can you stay after close once you are in. in that case I could stay 2 hours, but I won't arrive until 4PM.

Would you beable to get married by a Scottish humanist society celebrant here in the grounds somewhere? And take some wedding photos the wedding party is only 4 people plus the celebrant who performs the marriage and a photographer it would be very subtle and would not disturb anyone else's day

I agree best to contact the New lanark Trust directly but Im sure that this is possible, it is a popular wedding venue with some good places for photos etc inc the roof garden

We'll be in Edinburgh on a tour for several days & are interested in visiting as a day tour from there. How can we get there from Edinburgh if we don't have a car? Are there day bus tours that we can get? Is it best if we book tickets online? Thanks in advance!

You could get the train from Edi to Lanark and walk down but its a long walk down hill and a taxi may be cheaper instead of your feet.

Drive down to the entrance, the hill is steep! And difficult to get back up even if you negotiate the walk down!

It's a fabulous place for dog walking & loads of dogs around. No dog-friendly eating places though.
