Visiting Andalsnes, on a cruise ship, we were delighted to find the Golden Railway was running its first passenger trips, 2.5hr trips from Andalsnes to Bjorli, through the Romsdal Valley taking in many of the iconic sights of the region.
The train was warm and comfortable. There is a toilet on the train. There was an English speaking guide who kept us informed of what we were passing. The train slowed down as we passed sights, such as the Troll Wall, to allow us to take photos. We were alerted when there were photo ops coming up.
In Bjorli there was little to see or do (although the rail company do have plans).
All in all a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. Good price too.
Be aware that there are no facilities for drinks, so take your own tea or coffee (March 2024)
