We rode our bikes along the wide flat trail and enjoyed all the sounds and sights nature has to offer. Stopped off along the way at a coffee shop, followed by the Mt Helena pub. An experience not to miss.

Took the kids here in October whilst in Perth. Wasn't too hot and there weren't too many flies around, so quite good conditions for walking. The Swan View tunnel remains a fascinating place to visit and the children enjoyed walking through (after some initial trepidation).

My wife and I have been getting into a bit to MTB trail riding and found this track whilst looking for new rides. We started at Bellevue and parked at the trail head which is right next door to the Bellevue RSL. The 'loop' section is 41km long - but we opted to do the extra leg to Chidlow so ended up doing 56km (3hrs 26min averaging around 16.5km/h). A number of trail notes I found said do the Northern section first to avoid the hill from Bellevue to Mundaring - however the Northern section is still a gradual hill going from Bellevue to Chidlow - which is about 25km. It's not a nasty hill at all, but there is very little rolling. Conversely, on the Southern leg you get to roll most of the 15km from Mundaring back to the RSL. There's plenty of stops on the way. The track does not have a lot of shade so take plenty of water (there's some drinking fountains along the way to top up) and put on the sunscreen. Beware if you want to ride through the Swan View Tunnel that the ground is large loose blue metal and there are puddles - I forgot to charge my light so it was a slow careful ride through - good to do once but would opt to ride around it next time. We did this ride 20th October and there was still water running at the waterfalls - but next time we would do it in Winter - a bit cooler, less flies and the waterfalls would hopefully be running. If you are doing the longer ride that we did I suggest you take some snacks to refuel.

My Husband and I had a fantastic time walking through the tunnel and talking about life. We sat under a tree with a view and just took in the nature around us.

Interesting walk that actually goes for about 15km from Swanview through to Chidlow. Great tunnel for kids to enjoy and a nice break at the Wildflower tavern in John Forrest National Park. Plenty of flora along the way and kangaroos a plenty at the tavern.

My son and I started our bike ride at Swan View station. There is enough space to park your car. From here we went into the direction of John Forrest NP where the views are amazing. After roughly 15km we ended up in Mt Helena, where there is a little tavern to get some refreshments. Picnic table and drinking water is available along the way. We returned from Mt Helena back to Swan View. Keep in mind that if you do the track in the direction we did there is a slight elevation so if you are not in a good shape maybe do a shorter part.

We have been here a few times and loved it. A flat and well-maintained path with very little rubbish on it, really good for leisurely bike rides. Always surrounded by very curteous cyclists too, so much better than the bike paths on the roads. The track is quite long, so you just turn around when you have had enough and head home, but if you are keen for it then you can pack some lunch and make a day of it.

There's plenty of options to take on this circular loop through some lovely Perth hill towns. For a short visit, park at Swan View and its a short walk into John Forrest where there are great views, waterfalls in winter, picnic benches, old railway bridge and tunnel.
It's a relatively flat to cycle along with a couple of cafe stops (Darlington, Mundaring) or a pub stop at Mt Helena. Great to practice cross country cycling, the path for the most part allows side by side riding. If tackling the loop, bring a map as there is another section of the trail that can add kilometres onto the ride.
Another option is to start from Mundaring which is very close to lunch options.
You may spot a kangaroo and will definitely hear the local birdlife.

This if a terrific walk trail that is suitable for a family stroll or a serious long distance hike that can take you as far as Kalgoorlie if you so desire. There are nice stops , kids parks, coffee shops ,pubs etc along the way.

It's lovely to go cycling on this trail in sunny weather. Apart from enjoying the weather you enjoy the bush surroundings. We cycled from Darlington to Mundaring, arriving at Scuplture Park for a tea break. If you enjoy nature and cycling, this is a great trail to ride on.

Is there a particular place that is easy to get to in Mundaring on the Railway Reserve heritage Trail which is particularly good for bird watching (and wildflowers).
