We visited during the Annual Studio tour. Tom Green creates wonderful pieces of stained glass in sizes from small Christmas tree ornaments to window panes. His studio is in his home which is an old school. He and his family also make and sell maple syrup, honey and jams.
Profits go towards his admirable mentoring program for youngsters one of whom was making garlic bread in an outdoor wood burning oven. They also offered tarts for a donation! New this year was a mural on the side of the house

This fall, we visited Glass Eagle as part of the Annual Haliburton Highlands Studio Tour so it was much busier! There was a bit of a wait to get into the former school house studio.
Tom Green, the owner and glass artist, graduated from Queen’s University and started his career as a photographer. When he photographed stained glass, he was hooked. He does incredible work- everything from small musical notes to large church windows. He is currently completing the last of 32 windows for a Synagogue in Markham.
He also mentors teens one of whom was making garlic toast with cheese on an open fire. It was delicious!!

Beautiful little studio and lovely gardens. Stumbled onto this place over the weekend when there was an artists exhibit going on and picked up some lovely pieces.

As we were wandering around his grounds, Tom Green came out to greet us and invite us in.
What an interesting man!! He is pretty much self sufficient in the 1871 Moon school he purchased 20 years ago. He grows all his own vegetables and even harvests the seeds for next year’s planting. He fishes and he hunts wild turkeys, rabbits and gophers. He makes jam and honey. He even tried his hand at taxidermy- a snowy owl I think! A wood stove heats his home.
But he is also a true artist - at the entrance, stained glass birds hanging in a bush a caught my eye. Inside, he was working on a beautiful panel of red poppies. He showed us into his home where 2 walls in his kitchen have a stained glass backsplash. He doesn’t like you to photograph his work but he graciously permitted me to snap a gorgeous window sized piece of a wizard and dragon valued at $10,000. As a courtesy, I will not post it but it was magnificent!
He mentors way ward kids and has been successful in that endeavor. He proudly said 18 of 19 had gone on to college! He teaches them the art of stained glass, gardening, fishing and cooking.
I had to buy one of the beautiful humming birds, strawberry- rhubarb jam and Golden honey.
Highly recommended!

If you're looking for an unusual gift or a unique addition to your home, ie a window (of which by he way we have had Tom make us 2....) you're at the right place. Tom's an artist , a visionary and just a great guy. Our 2 windows at our home are stunning and have made both rooms truly unique. Many times when we are up north we visit a) just to see Tom but b) to see what else is new. PLUS there is the added benefit or buying his honey, his jam and whatever else he's cooking up. Add to that , he employs locals and gives great kids a 2nd chance. If you need a wedding gift, an unusual present or something for yourself this is the place to start.I mean he has items starting at 20$ ash... Thanks Tom for sharing your talent . . Glass Eagle is truly a hidden gem in Minden and Haliburton

Tom Green is fostering teens who need guidance. He teaches them life skills around the house and also to make stained glass art.
Some of the works were beautiful but lot more expensive than others.
Tom uses the proceeds to fund his causes.
