First of all, the scenery is beautiful and I enjoyed seeing the landscapes. However, this was not a good tour for me.
I was in a car with people from other tour agencies - in itself not a problem. However, the others paid literally half the price that I did, and we had an identical tour: same food, same activities, same accommodation.
There was no guide. We had a driver who occasionally mumbled his answers to questions, but never volunteered information. Also entirely in Spanish, and the “written English” option gives you little useful information. I can more or less speak Spanish, so that’s okay, but it was a challenge to hear over the loud music.
Our car broke down on the last day, which I think we all saw coming because it never took less than 2 tries to start. It just wasn’t in good condition. They worked hard to fix it and we returned in the car on the correct day.
The activities are not as advertised: there was no talking to the Wayuu people. We just went from beach to beach. The views were spectacular, so I enjoyed that, but we were simply dropped off for 2 hours at a time.
Finally, if you go, they’ll tell you to buy sweets for the kids in Alta Guajira. This is undersold - you need to buy bread/water/coffee as well, or they don’t let you through. We didn’t realise the extent of it. This is not specific to this tour at all - just a feature of the area.
Overall, Alta Guajira is worth visiting. If you want to do this trip, then arrive in Riohacha a day early and visit the local travel agencies and save yourself the extra money. You don’t get anything from booking with this tour online.
