Nasty Locals

Visited the market today. It was a disappointment. We are from BNE and could feel those people want to stay amongst themselves. Got many nasty comments by the locals about our Dachshund puppy…..such as “look at that annoying fag” and other similar statements…..don’t go there if you are NOT a Redneck or a wannabe Hippie….

I was so grateful that a fellow camper shared this market knowledge with me. The Yandina Saturday markets are one of the best markets I’ve been to for an extensive selection of locally produced international cuisine, locally grown fresh produce as well as plants and second hand treasures.

COVID tyranny

The markets itself are great, heaps of great produce and the donuts are seriously beyond amazing. However, I visited during the height of the COVID draconian measures, and was harrassed by a police officer for not wearing a face mask. I told him politely that I was exempt, and he demanded that I wear one, or be fined hundreds of dollars. This is despite the fact that mandates are not laws, and that the Queensland Goverment has said that you do not need an exemption document.

*I chose March 2022 as it did not give an earlier time. This was August 2021.

Unbelievable donuts and coffee

I think this is the best market on the sunshine coast, real fruit and vegetable growers the best Doughnuts and coffee.
The jam factory doughnuts are next level.

Great country markets

We really enjoyed these farmers markets - more so than the more publicised Eumundi ones. There were so many plants at awesome prices. We also picked up quite a bit of fresh produce to take with us.

Poor Covid safety marshalling

Great markets - but today in the midst of Covid restrictions requiring mandatory mask wearing - there were so many people not bothering to wear masks. This is a transmission risk and a statement by those not wearing masks of there being no need to act in "the common good". Disappointing!

Fantastic fruit & veges

We had a wonderful morning at the markets. There is a terrific selection of locally grown fruit and vegetables, beautiful plants and all sorts of delicious treats.

We purchased truffle oil, mushrooms, figs, eggs, limes, freshly baked doughnuts, olives and great coffee.

The grandchildren loved the jumping castle which was really reasonably priced and had great shade for the adults.

Goodbye to the supermarket for the weekly fruit and veg shopping!

Not as many plants as there used to be but Covid scews us all.

Still a great morning out followed by lunch at the Ginger Factory. Who could go wrong? Lovely day. Ride the Train to hear Yandina's amazing history. Look for the ginger bread man on the boat ride, yep we have done it several times as adults, without the kids. Enjoy the amazing, free walk around the rainforest garden, which expands every year, however a bit dry this year. Buy some lovely ginger produce. Food at the cafe is good in particular the ploughman's. Close to all the hinterland has to offer and well worth the trip. I keep going back. and will keep going back. As for the markets, very nice morning of meandering although, as stated the plants are no longer as prevalent as they were. There is also the chocolate factory and nuts, well worth a visit. Yandina Historical homestead and lots worth a day out. Don't dismiss Yandina. It is a little treasure trove and an interesting glimpse into the past of this amazing region. Highly recommended if you like artisan crafts, bric a brac, specialty stores, GINGER oh yeah, and peaceful country living, oh, and history. love it :)
