We went on the wonderful sunrise canoe trip. So beautiful and peaceful out on the water watching the sun come up and seeing all the bird life. Our guide was charming and very knowledgeable about the bird names. He took us to a village for chai and into one of the houses as well as to a toddy shop.

What a fantastic experience. Did the dawn canoe trip and all I can is GET OUT BED AND GO. You will not be disappointed. Done many experiences around the world and the scenery here is spectacular. Mother Nature at her best.

Six of us boarded this unbelievably lovely covered canoe at 3:30 in the afternoon to float through the river of water lillies, egrets, kingfishers and other birds on one of the most pleasant sojourns of our wonderfull 3+ week trip.. We relaxed back on cushioned mahogany deck chairs while our host and captain, Sanu, piloted the boat upstream and back down, into the middle of the lake for sunset.
The river trip took us through a long village built on both sides of the river, with rice paddies beyond. We waived to kids, moms, dads as they busied themselves with life along the river. Samu answered questions about birds, the community and more.
As we turned back into the river after sunset, we saw a remarkable sight... three trees on the right bank filled with what looked like white balls.... storks settling in for the night!
We docked at Sanu's house, very lovely, new (and available for homestays) which he'd built himself during "covid". His wife and mother lhad prepared one of the most delicious dinners of our entire trip. His two small sons, played outside while we ate.
Anyone going to southern India should make a point of booking this trip.....one of the most pleasantly memorable and relaxing events we enjoyed in our whole India stay!

This was the highlight of our trip to Kerala. We were picked up on the river in a boat with a canopy (canoe) from our riverside hotel. The sun was beginning to rise and it was beautiful. Our guide steered the boat through waterways that the bigger boats cannot go down. We loved watching village life on the banks of the waterway. There were fascinating birds everywhere (kingfishers, little cormorants, egrets, kites, herons etc etc.) At the end of the trip we were taken to a beautiful wooden house on the river with an open dining room where we were served a delicious freshly cooked breakfast. This was a trip like no other. It was simply idyllic. The young people who run the company were friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this trip. If there is any advice I would say ring up the day before to confirm the exact time and location of pickup. A superb experience.

So beautiful! My highlight so far for sure, and Jesvanth was a brilliant guide, showing me the local sights and waterways. He cares a lot for the local community and it shows through his approach, if you want a scenic slice of backwater life away from the more common big boats then I can't recommend these guys enough!

The sunrise cruise with local food is definitely a must do when in Kumarokom!
When we were in Kumarokom a lot of the canals were blocked by watermoss. However, that didn’t stop everyone at Canoe Kerala to make sure we had the best experience under these circumstances. We still got a long tour through the (open) canals followed by an amazing breakfast and lunch prepared right before us. Everyone was so nice & kind, answered all our questions and explained so many things about Kerala culture and food. Definitely the highlight of our trip to Kerala.
10/10 would recommend and so again!

The experience with the Canoe Kerala was superb. We had a warm welcome from the team. We did a sail in the nostalgic small boat for the first few minutes. The team was all ok for all our wishes. Then it was the planned Shikara trip. First, the sail was along the Meenachilar river branch.The time was flavored with some raw mango pieces and chilly powder which was completely out of their love and hospitality. Enjoying the sail with the view of some lovely water lillys, quacking ducks, we entered into the Vembanad lake. The ecstatic view of the sunset from the deck of the shikara was beyond words. Being late to arrive, we had to stay back in the backwaters more time to cover the 3hrs even after the sunset which added to the beauty of the sail in the pale light of the dusk.. The whole trip with family in the lovely Shikara with our favorite music was really overwhelming. The team, Saanu chettan, Jeswanth chettan, Vimal chettan were extremely good and we had a great time with them too with a cup of tea and the snacks served. Special mention about Paappi too. The team helped us with the arrangements for us to get fresh for our travel back. Can't finish the review without mentioning the place where they let us rest for sometime. The building was fantastically designed, maintained and presented. Altogether it was a very pleasant experience with Conoe Kerala.

CanoeKerala offers Canoe, kayak and Shikara services. Their early morning sunrise cruise is one of the best ways of experiencing the backwaters in Kumarakom.
The mesmerising view of sunrise in a picture perfect setup of lake with water lilies, birds like darters, herons, purple moorhens, kingfishers and drongos chirping around, all these with the backdrop of coconut trees and their reflection on either sides of the canal...was truly a sight to behold. Adds to this is the rhythmic sound of water created by ores...can't describe in words how magical it was for me.
During the ride, they take you through the narrow backwater canals in to local villages around and stop over to get you a nice tea from at local village teashop and also take you to paddy fields around. Nice way to get a glimpse of the village life there.
Thanks to Vimal and Sanu for your service. Had a wonderful experience.

One of our best experiences on Kerala tour. Vimal and team really made an effort to make us feel comfortable and enrich the experience of this tour.
As you slowly move in the canoe in the backwaters, you can see wildlife thriving all around you. Vimal shared his unique insights and knowledge about the flora and fauna. We briefly interacted with the locals as well. Overall, if you are looking to experience the real Kumarkom daily life, book this experience without any doubt. Cherry on top - Canoe Kerala donates a portion of your money to local community and reducing plastic waste in backwaters.
