Beautiful spot! Soft white sand, not too crowded and amazing scenery. A 400m walk from the car park. Nice easy walk, with some ramps and bridges.

We enjoyed the walk from picnic bay carpark to this beach, which is only 700m but can be quite steep in places. A few vantage points along the way. The beach itself is small but very clean, probably not as nice as squeaky beach for the sand.

Seems to be a quieter beach than the others, or at least had a quick turnover of visitors. It's a short walk from the car park, or a slightly longer walk from Picnic Bay. Would definitely avoid on a windy day, as I ended up with more sand in my sandwich than actual food and eventually got blown off the beach. Drop toilets without soap and water are available.

Review of Whisky Bay, Wilsons prom, Victoria

Drive into the National Park heading for the commercial/admin. centre at Tidal River and you climb over Darby Saddle and, as you descend nearer to sea level, there’s the turn off to Whisky Bay immediately on your right. What’s not to like about the half-dozen small beaches along this stretch of coastline – the western side of Wilsons Prom.
There was an easterly wind throughout the long Australia Day holiday week this year which helped provide for those pristine images of billiard ball western seascapes lapping the shallow beaches with off-shore rocks and islands close in and lining the horizon of the bay. Out to sea everything was turquoise in the bright sunshine and behind you there were those grey-green tree-covered slopes that seem to stretch into infinity. You don’t have to travel far from your car to appreciate the incredible beauty of this country.
There’s a car park at the end of Whisky Beach Road. Next to it is/was a defunct latrine – sectioned off by plastic tape with a friendly notice that tells you that it’s not working – and recommends that you find another latrine at a neighbouring beach (assuming that you can wait that long). Realistically, a number of people couldn’t … wait that long.
There was a narrow gap in the bushes – a sort of irregular pathway had been forced behind the wooden table/seats nearby and, once through you could see where the latrine had shifted. Fortunately, the ad hoc sanitation issues were little more than an isolated glitch in a pristine land given that numbers will have been strictly limited and, equally, that the organic wastes quickly break down.
The latrine, however, was simply a diversion, and there was a beach/bay on hand to appreciate.
Trawl through the many reviews of Whisky Beach – one of a handful of similar magic beaches in the coastline north of Tidal River - and linked by an easy-to-negotiate footpath. The beaches are pristine and the water turquoise in the bright sunshine. Breath the marine air deep into your lungs and tell yourself that you’re in one of those unbelievable advertisements in a popular travel magazine … except you’re not … this is real-life-Wilsons-Prom-style.
It's just 425 metres to the beach from the carpark according to the sign – along an easy-to-follow route. A first impression – apart from that enchanting seascape – is the small size of the beach. It’s effectively hemmed in by an enormous collection of boulders at either end of the beach – in the sand, standing proud and climbing back up the slopes. The boulders come in all shades/mottle textures of grey, brown and orange that change with the sunlight/shade.
We waded through Whisky Creek that seeped down from the hinterland through the rocks to one side of the beach – providing a playground for the kids with their dams and channels – and into the sea. There were birds to watch and crabs to follow in the shallow water. There were at most a dozen people on the beach.
Oh, and a regular note for all the beaches including this one is to be aware of the benign-looking sea; it’s cold and unpredictable with tides, waves, currents, rips, etc. Wear a wet suit if you have one, don’t go deep, don’t go alone, keep the little kids playing in the creeks, watch the big kids like a hawk and stay aware/safe. Victoria lost 51 people to drowning July21 to June22 and that’s 51 to many. Twice that number were also recorded as ‘narrowly avoided’ fatalities. The previous year 61 people had been lost.
Then back on the road – there was Tidal River to explore and, on the way back to Yanakie Township, the walk to the pioneer cemetery to one side of the park entrance.

My wife and I drove to this place towards the end of our visit to Wilsons Prom. The beach is around 500 meters walking distance from the car park.

This is a scenic place to visit, with some spectacular large rocks.

There were only a few people around at the time of our visit.

We went to Whisky Bay during the day to lie on the beach & have a swim, which was lovely. It was so nice that we returned that evening to watch the sunset which was a highlight of our trip to the Prom.

I was incredibly sore from a hike in another area of the park, but after driving on the main road, it seemed insane that I didn't visit a beach... the views of the beaches from the road showed perfect conditions... albeit a little windy.

There is great parking at Whisky Beach , from the parking area, you follow the really stunning paths to the beach. There is also a viewing point at this beach.

Delightfully there was a visitor with his nose poking at the edge of the walkway... he was standing on his hind legs and showing a great deal of interest in the edge of the boardwalk... I was enjoying the moment so much that it didn't occur to me to take a photo when it was inches away from my feet. It wasn't until other walkers making their way towards us had made it skittish enough to wander away that I finally took a photo of this delightful echidna.

It really is an amazing National Park ... you are never sure what you will see on each visit.

We took opportunity to watch the sunset over Whisky Beach. Whisky Beach in Wilsons Promontory offers the rare opportunity to watch the sun go down over the ocean in Eastern Australia.

At low tide, this was exceptional as stunning reflections could be enjoyed in the wet flats of the shoreline. Reflections of the granite boulders at each end of the beach, reflections of mountain behind the beach, and of the sunset. Photos didn't quite capture the beauty and spiritual experience.

Whisky Beach is a beauty. The rocks make this a unique beach amongst the unique beaches of Wilsons Promontory. Come here to watch a sunset.

We stayed at Eagle Rock B n B in Fish Creek which provided luxurious accommodation and uninterrupted 360 degrees views to Wilsons Prom and surrounding areas. Relaxing, stunning views and easy day trips throughout the area. An absolute must is a visit to the local shops to support our community and enjoy the great outdoors.
