Using Ice House was a common way to save ice for warm months of the year in most of Iranian cities not long ago . in the winter the Ice House which was a covered big hole was filled with water and frozen , The type of the structure kept the ice even up to summer .There are still someold people that can explain how they took the ice from these ice houses . Moayedi Ice House has been renovated perfect and no doubt can be listed as a attraction that must be seen in Kerman .

Founded by Moayed-al Din Reyhan, one of the Seljuk rulers of Kerman, the Moayedi Yakhdan is located in Abuhamed Street in Kerman. As one of the most important buildings in Kerman in the past, today this historical monument is known as the biggest mud-clay yakhdan in Iran and in the world. Consisting of different parts like the dome tank with the height of 12 meters, the fence with the height of 20 meters, the pool and the ice pit, this building is made up of clay to save the cold longer. The architects of this building built a canal on the floor of yakhdan to save the melted ice in summer and to avoid the adhesion between the slices of ices the gardens put straw between them. The dome of yakhdan is built in stairs to decrease the pressure of the dome and to shade the dome there are also stairs to reach inside the yakhdan.

It is connected to a park and next to it the National Library of Kerman is not to be missed. A wonderful factory built about 100 years ago it is turned to a library. The whole complex needs to be introduced to public and travelers...

The structure is one of the genius architectures of the region. It was made almost 300 years ago and used to keep the ice for the warm times of the year. The techniques used to design the place are amazing! It's not far from the grand bazaar and it worth to pay a visit to the place. The beautiful facade of National library is also nearby.
