A pearl of Hungary in Fertod a village not far from the Austrian border Burgenland region. Everything is beautiful. Hungarian Rococo, a unique "Villa".
Beautiful wrought iron gate at the entrance of the large courtyard, stairs leading inside and especially the decorations of the rooms that follow each other, the lookout on the top floor overlooking the park and courtyard, a wonder.
Soft and very delicate colors fill the staircase, mirrors and columns, chandeliers get lost.
So many details to admire everywhere.
Here Haydn composed music.

A great place to visit and we preferred it to the Esterhazy Palace in Austria, as it is more authentic, grander, and situated in a more park-like setting, while the Austrian palace is more like a cultural centre now. This palace has recently been refurbished and there are 2 floors of ornate rooms to visit. The park is large, and while not as grand as it once was at its height in the baroque period, is still a great place for a walk among grand tree-lined allees and woodland. Well worth the trip over the border from Austria into Hungary.

We visited this magnificent palace for the first time in 2010 - at a time when, during the excursion, the already completely restored rooms were still replaced by halls in which restoration work was going on. The back side of the beautiful building had not even been restored that summer, and the beautiful rose garden, part of which had already been successfully restored and delights the eyes of visitors with its many colors, was not in sight.
Like the previous time, due to the lack of information on the palace website in English, it was not possible to visit this architectural gem with at least an English-speaking guide. As many years ago, we were led through the halls by a friendly girl guide, who told her compatriots in detail and enthusiastically about the history of the palace and its owners. Remembering it, I can confidently say that the guides here are excellent. And here I would like to add “but” :). But this Esterhazy residence is visited by guests from all corners of our planet! And we have witnessed this more than once.
Therefore, I would like to appeal to the administration of the museum with a request to at least add one more language to its official page and place detailed information about the times of tours in English, etc. To date, such information is given only in three languages: Hungarian and the languages of neighboring countries (Slovak and German). There are no audio guides or printouts of the text of the excursion itself in other languages. But such an attitude will not increase the flow of tourists to Fertőd...
And, returning to the palace itself, of course, I would like to rejoice at the fruits of the many years of painstaking work of the restorers, who, although they have not yet completely restored this masterpiece, have already done so much so that even these days the admiring public can contemplate this beauty.

Beautiful day walking the palace and grounds.
Did the 5pm tour.
Friendly girl gave tour only in Hungarian but was kind enough to speak with us in English here and there: well done.
We listened to the tour with an English tape they provide included in the booking across the street before entering the palace gate.
They appear not to be quite used to Canadians and we certainly were not familiar with their procedures but all went well and another Blessed experience... .
We took over a hundred photos and more than half were of this historical palace & grounds: beautiful.

I would have liked to go to to the evening concert at the Castle Esterhazy Fertőd, on my holiday, together with my family from abroad. We were a couple of minutes late, they didn't leave us to enter any more. I guess Hungarians do not need the money of tourists. The concerts start too early, at 7pm when families just leave the Neusiedler See with little children. It makes no sence spending any money to renew the castle if the staff of the CastleFertőd is primitive. Maybe they should hire a more intelligent staff from the capital city. 🤔 BTW, we visit several concerts in Vienna, they always let us in to the concerts, we could buy tickets even on the street. They like tourists 😉

Schloss ist sehr schön restauriert und auch der Park. Jedoch ist die Führung mit Audioguide auf Deutsch verbesserungswürdig. Leider nicht aktuell und mit dem beigelegten Folder nicht selbsterklärend.

A kastély csak tárlatvezetéssel látogatható, viszont a csoportok fél óránként indulnak. Fő szezonon kívül kényelmesen lehet jegyet venni és a csoportot kiválasztani.
Ott jártunkkor (2023. január) csak néhány terem látogatható, a kastély felújítás alatt van.
A látogatható termek nagyon szépen restauráltak, viszont korabeli berendezés sajnos kevés van.
Kellemes időtöltés emellet a kastélypark, érdemes egy sétát betervezni.

We absolutely adored our trip to this beautiful castle. We somehow ended up on a Hungarian tour but the guide translated the tour to us simultaneously. She was extremely nice and helpful, obviously knew a lot on the history of the place. The rooms are exquisite. The reception of the castle is quite possibly one of the most charming rooms I’ve ever seen.
I would bring a hat and gloves if you go in the winter because the rooms aren’t heated! But definitely worth the detour

very nice place just to take a walking tour , but also by tickets inside . Nice and well mantained garden. worth to see.

Das große Schloss liegt direkt am Fahrradweg mitten in einem großen Park. Es ist touristisch gut erschlossen.

Option No1: Take a train from Budapest to Fertoszeplak-Fertod. You must change the train at least once.
Option No2: Take a train from Budapest to Kapuvar, and a bus from Kapuvar to Fertod.
