We recently stopped in here after driving passed many times and not bothering. Well worth stopping and wandering around the beach to check out the views, which were stunning. On a clear day, you can see Mt Taranaki behind the Three Sisters. We stopped in at 1100 and it was very busy, so if photography is your thing, perhaps earlier or later in the day would be better. It's only a short walk from the car park, but tread carefully as some parts of the walk are slippery and the drift wood on the beach is sharp. The views of the cliffs are also interesting, with the different and colourful layers of sediment and there are caves to explore. There are toilets and a cafe on site. Check tide times if you're planning on stopping in as you can only do the walk at low tide.

Do it. This is a fantastic spot. lots of caves, arches, rock sculptures. Only able to go a couple of hours either side of low tide so check the tides and do it.

We loved exploring and walking the beach for miles

Always enjoy seeing these rocks and notice they have changed in 60 years since I had last seen them. Not quite 3 sisters now, more like 2 and a bit. Went at low tide to get close

Great wild coastal landscape. A great place to appreciate the raw ruggedness of Nature, just watch the tide

Great spot, beautiful scenery - lots of small caves, ball-shaped stones and coloured layers in the cliffs and on the beach. Be sure to view/walk at low tide as we were there at the turning of the tide and the water comes in very quickly. The day was damp and windy but still made for amazing photos of the seascape and cliffs. The food and drink caravan was not open during our view but I assumed it was too early as we visited between 8 and 9.30am. A must-visit spot if the tide is right on the South Waikato coast.

Tide is an important factor when visiting this natural formation.low tide is the time to be there. Be aware of some wet and sticky surface to get there.

Driving from New Plymouth to Waitomo and randomly stopped for a coffee to find a what was an awesome little place.

Great coffee at the container set up right in the river.

Walked around to the Three Sisters rocks which was 100% worth it.

Only thing to note was be careful of the incoming tides as the water level on our return had come in quite a bit and instead of ankle deep was knee and to shorter people thigh deep.

Bit of hype as the popularity use the similar name overseas, the Three Sisters, but these brittle rocks are damaged by sea waves every day, and we do not know when these rocks are still exists. Anyway, this place is very popular and visitors need to walk approx. 1 km along the river mouth to reach this attraction on the low tide. Three sharp and tall rocky shapes and the other rocky caved structure; maybe the remainder of other rock shape, the Elephant Rock, are the main attractions. Nice walk at the low tide, spacious sandy black beach, enough car park at the start point, a destination for the whole family, all are for free.

I was doing a road trip when I found the Three Sisters. I had read about the rock foundations just before setting out. The stop was very worthwhile and the rocks around the headland were breathtaking. The black sand and the windy conditions added to the experience the day of my visit. The walk out to the Three Sisters can be a bit slippery underfoot so small steps were required. A definite stop though!

An awesome way to spend a few hours. We just happened to be passing and pulled off the road to take a look. Our timing was perfect with the tide fully out enabling an easy walk across the black sand right around the headland and the view just kept getting better. Don't drive past this one!
