It 's a beautiful museum for history buffs, and if you 've got any free time on the island, stop by it. There are parking spaces around and we paid 10 euros for two adults , but it was a delightful experience . Recommendation

First of all, the museum is open and visitable, I do not know why on Tripadvisor it is said that it is not accessible.
Recommendation: go there. Although the impression just entered is that they stopped at the 60s, the set-up and exhibits are valuable and very interesting.

Admission = 4 € (2 € if > 65 years old). Superb Collections of pieces (statues, pottery, bas-reliefs) from the agora and the acropolis of Thassos, including a magnificent kouros holding a ram. This statue (- 600 BC) was broken, in the 6th century, into 5 pieces that were inserted into the terrace wall of the sanctuary of Apollo Pythier (sic). It was rediscovered in 1919 by the French archaeologist Charles Picard (1883-1965). Reconstituted, it was exhibited outdoors in a school that was destroyed in 1935 and where the archaeological museum is located. The statue is unfinished due to a crack near the right ear. On the ground floor are exhibited old photos taken during the excavations.

Very good museum with very friendly staff. Group of school children in front of us. They went left as we walked in and lady at entrance guided us right to a small theatre, sat there on our own - video - History of Thassos in English through the centuries, took about 20 min. Then walked around the building with many architects. Yes staff are keeping an eye on everyone as lots of architects could be stolen. The place is like a TARDIS ( Dr Who) From the entrance looks small but has about 3 floors. Well worth the visit, a couple of minutes walk from the main drag in town centre. If you are in the EUR it's €4 or £5 if in the UK. Same if you are a pensioner.

Excellent visit to a small museum with well-thought-out teaching methods, with explanations in French, to learn more about the ancient history of this small island.
Allow 1 hour of visit if you take the time; Entrance costs €4.

The archaeological museum of Thassos is very interesting and worth visiting even with small children. Thassos has a very long history and many archaeological finds have been preserved.

Interesting museum but the museum staff leaves something to be desired.... They give themselves a power that they don't have... Ban on carrying the bag over the shoulder, and.....

It is not true that it is closed as Tripadvisor indicates. I visited it this morning, September 4th and it is open from 8am to 7.30pm. Highly recommended visit because there are really interesting pieces, even beyond the colossus. Good setup and very friendly staff.

The museum is not impressive in size, but just right. There are not many people so you can explore at your own pace.

Interesting museum with lots to see. Also provided some nice shelter from the heat outside! Disappointing gift shop.
Unfortunately, our experience was spoilt by a brown-haired lady that followed us around everywhere as if we were thieves, and made us feel very uncomfortable - distracting us from being able to actually enjoy what the museum was exhibiting. She also took great satisfaction in making me take my water bottle to a locker, as apparently no drinks were allowed (despite us not being told this when buying tickets at reception)!
