I parked on the A819 layby and walked across the field for the view to the castle over the loch.
Its a very boggy/wet field - if you get back to the car with dry feet you've done well!

These are the remains of a small castle facing the lake. Easy parking and in 10/15 minutes walk you get to the castle that you can only see from the outside.

This is an ok ruin, which is currently not accessible.

Stopped in here when we hit a detour. Ample and free parking! A quick jaunt up to the castle, along a small path which probably isn’t suitable for wheelchair users, to take a few snaps of the derelict but beautiful Kilchurn. The gift shop was open and although we didn’t stop in, we did donate as we’d taken some photos of the resident coos that live there. There was a polite sign asking for donations if photos were taken – we believe that professional photographers may have taken photos and used them for commercial gain, so this sign seemed perfectly fair. The lady in the shop was super friendly, coming out to thank us for our donation so we stood and chatted for a few minutes before having to hit the road again. Definitely worth a stop if you’re passing.

Currently closed and fenced off but you can still walk in and around the outside. Nice
Spot beside the water. Bit of a walk from the car park under the railway line.. was not sign posted on the main road from what I recall.

I think that if the Castle was assigned free of charge for at least 100 years to an institution or private, with the obligation of a restoration that brings it back to the ancient structure, perhaps equipping them with bathrooms and more, even to use it as a hotel destination, it would be a great thing, at no cost.

It’s a hike back in to this gothic castle ruin, and when you get there you’ll find guard fencing as the site is dangerous and closed for renovations. If you have time it’s a nice little stroll back in, under a bridge and through a field of Highland coos. We went just after a rain, however, which was hard on the shoes. You can’t get any cool architectural photos because of the fence. Check first to see if it has been restored before you go. There is also a neat little gift shop, closed when we were there but probably worth a poke around if open.

The views and castle are beautiful. Unfortunately The owner of the souvenir shop at the entrance is extremely hostile, pushy for purchases and unwelcoming to visitors. Signage is very negative and threatening giving the feeling that they don’t want you to visit - why have a souvenir shop then? 🤔

Ancient running the Campbell clan. It is currently closed, but you can see it from the road as well as walk up to it, around the chain link fence. It is currently owned by the Scottish Heritage society.

I would agree, as per the above! Regarding the rubble car park, I would change into appropriate footwear when you arrive then put dress shoes back on when you reach the castle. Lots of lovel photo opportunities, both around and inside the castle, and on the far bank with the castle as a backdrop.

Hallo zusammen, meine Schwester und ich wollen bei unserem Schottland Urlaub in drei Wochen auch gerne das Kilchurn Castle besuchen, hat jemand einen Tipp wo man am besten parkt? Hab leider keine Seitenparkplätze oder so an der A85 entdecken können.

Hi! We've read that Kilchurn Castle is closed until further notice. Is this still in effect?
We will be in the area the end of May and are planning a visit if it is open. If anyone has up-to-date information, please let me know. Thanks.

Hi! The castle is closed which means you can't climb to the top of it, but don't let that stop you. You can walk round it and there are places you can see into the interior. It's still well worth a visit for its location, right on the loch, and for the views you get of it as you approach. Hope you enjoy your visit to the area and that you do go and visit it.

Se hai fretta puoi visitarlo anche in meno di un'ora, ma se ami la natura, se vuoi rilassarti e godere i meravigliosi panorami che offre, o vuoi far divertire i bambini a nascondersi tra le vecchie mura, merita sicuramente una visita più lunga.
Dal parcheggio camminerai lungo un sentiero che in 10 minuti al massimo ti porta al castello, calcola magari un po' di tempo in più se vorrai fotografare alcuni scorci davvero interessanti.
Il castello è vuoto, quindi volendo può bastare una visita di mezz'ora, però considera che all'interno troverai delle scale di pietra che ti condurranno alle terrazze più alte, dalle quali potrai ammirare e fotografare panorami spettacolari, immerso nel silenzio della natura e in compagnia delle rondini. A me è piaciuto moltissimo, ho trascorso due ore meravigliose, e visto che la giornata era di sole, sarei rimasta volentieri anche più a lungo.

Please tell us exactly where the parking lot is for Kilchurn Castle. In 2010 we approached the castle coming from Glencoe via the B8074, but we could not find any way to actually get into the castle. We will be there again this summer and would really enjoy a brief visit!

Assuming you will be at Glencoe again here are directions.I could not find the B8074 on my map but in any case you will need to get to A82 which you would have to had used anyway to get to Glencoe.
This is the main road that runs all the way up to Inverness from Glasgow.
On the A 82 head south towards Loch Lomond / Glasgow area.
After about 25 miles you will need to take a left turn on to the A85 this is the main route to Oban.
After about 14 miles there will be a road on the left, the A 819.
As soon as you pass this turn off there is an opening among the trees/bushes it is not easy to see and is not signposted.
If you see it and miss it dont worry just a bit further up the road there is a right hand turn you can go to and turn around.
It is a very bumpy car park so go slow.
As it is just a dirt track it will not be on any map except maybe a O.S map.
Once there you will see a signpost for the castle its about a ten minute walk , there was no charge when we went.
If you dont follow any of this please feel free to ask again , as I said once you are by the A819 you are by the car park if you still miss it use the right hand turn I told you about park and just walk down to famillarize yourself.
I hope you find it ok and have a good visit this was a castle I had always wanted to go to ever since I saw a photo of it 30 years ago.
