Looks like we are the latest victims of the High Force parking gestapo. We visited on New Years day. The car parking kiosk was not manned and the ticket machine was not working. We went to the kiosk, which had long queues as they were serving snacks and selling tickets. We were told we could pay for the car park together with our entry tickets, so we paid £11 (4 x £2 entries and £3 car parking). We paid in cash and were given 2 receipts out of a basket of paper. We were told we wouldn’t need them anyway, as there were the only 2 staff so nobody was checking tickets at the gate. We had a good visit and Raby Estate have obviously upgraded the footpath.

Yesterday I got a £60 parking fine from an enforcement company saying I had not paid to park. I don’t have proof of payment as I paid in cash and was not given a proper receipt, so I am dependent on Raby management ‘doing the right thing’. Maybe this is how they are funding their upgrades.

Don't get sucked in to pay £6 at this car park!.we wanted to do a walk , which would have taken us over 3 hours (£6 , no card payments, cash only or via an app which you have to download)...add on the £2 per person to see high force (close view)...and it's basically a tourist trap.We paid £3 to stay 5 mins and avoid a hefty fine, then we left and parked further down the road in a layby which holds about 6 cars, did a walk at Low Force -Holwick Scar......High Force is actually on a public footpath ..so if you can plot yourself a route which takes in the path ...then you could probably avoid any costs.. if it's just High Force you want to see...then the parking is £3 for up to 3 hours ,plus £2 per person....nothing about these charges are mentioned on the Raby Hotel website ....

We are yet another family that have been caught out by the overly complicated car park payment arrangements at High Force Waterfall and Hotel.

There are too many of these reviews on a similar subject about the car park. Sort this out High Force Management and install a contactless card payment machine. It would make the visitor experience so much better.

Our experience;
Our only option on the day was to pay by phone (no kiosk was open). After a four minute pay by phone call was completed we assumed we had paid.

However, we then received a text message asking for our vehicle reg to ‘confirm our parking session’. We replied with our reg and again assumed we had paid.

Some TWO MONTHS later we received a £60 parking fine from Civil Enforcement. We have replied to Civil Enforcement through the proper channels and explained with evidence that we did everything that was asked of us on the day. Standard rejection letter received and we now face prospect of challenging through an external appeals process. Just all so unnecessary.

What makes it even more annoying too is that we bought drinks in the hotel and paid £6 to walk down to the waterfall.

Sort this out and install a contactless card payment machine. I am sure you can afford it by now from the PCN income you have shared with the Civil Enforcement company.

Really amazing experience. Beautiful drive on the A68 from Newcastle and incredible display of Nature’s force. Really lovely maintained path. Tickets easy to get from hotel opposite the entry point. We then walked up the steps and back through the woods. 40 minutes at a leisurely pace round trip.

Lovely scenic drive out to this beautiful Waterfall. We parked up at the hotel, you do have to pay for parking. Entry to the falls is £2 each, you get the tickets from the hotel. Its a nice walk to the base of the Waterfall along a path, we then decided to climb the steps on the way back. This is not an easy climb, loads of steps to the top. Once at the top its very uneven underfoot. Definitely recommend a visit here.

We took a short walk from the High Force pub to the falls. The walk is a short circuit to a view point and then back to the pub where we had lunch.
It is possible to take a longer walk from the car park in the woods which would have been better. However, it was drizzling and so may have been slippery.The falls are truly spectacular and there are many photo opportunities. The noise helps you send the true force of the water.

There is a pay and display carpark at High Force with two options. You can stay for 3 hours (£3) or 6 hours (£6). The instructions on using the pay and display machine is not very clear. You get a ticket to visit the waterfall from the High Force Hotel but you can also buy them from other places. We got ours from The Tourist Information shop in Richmond. Since covid they have introduced a circuit which is one way as the paths are quite narrow in places. There are lots of steps along the section back to the car and some of the terrain is quite rough and not suitable for those who may be infirm or disabled. In this case you can walk back along the footpath at lower level but you may have to wait for others to pass. On a sunny day it is stunning.
