We drove the perimeter of the lake in May and followed tyre tracks in and to, the lake edge. Flamingo were still there albeit only about a dozen. The area is quiet and serene. After visiting the area many times before this was the first time I had bothered to go and actually see it. I somehow thought I could scoop up some salt and take it home..😂 you can't..there are no piles of salt just sitting there as I envisaged 🙄 Lots of birds and animal tracks to see.
Warning..leave the way you came in! It's a massive area with most exits blocked off or inaccessible. Enjoy.

We were in the area so we drove by - this is August 2023.
Not the good time to visit as the water dries up in the Summer months and birds wuld have all but moved on to other locations (including flamingos).
Would not go out of your way to visit in the Summer. Beware the mozzies that would be abandoned in the Winter/Spring months!!

Ci siamo arrivati seguendo la strada sterrata che costeggia la spiaggia di Lady's Mile e poi seguendo la pista, a destra, che lo attraversa in direzione del monastero dei gatti.
Quando siamo andati noi, dopo mesi che non pioveva, era quasi completamente asciutto, pertanto non costituiva una grande attrazione.

We travelled here as we had read it was a great bird watching site. The whole area is surrounded by military sites , mast and warning signs not to use binoculars or camera's . Its not really clear where to go to get the best views, we stopped a few times by the main road and got out to look at the small flock of flamingoes that were there. We also got a brief sighting of a Marsh Harrier as it flew past but there were no other birds to be seen.We then drove along a small side road along the lake but again there was nowhere you could really stop and look and just comes to a dead end. So we drove back to the main road and walked across part of the salt flat to get a closer view. Someone told us that was the closest view that they'd had of the birds in two years. We did see a sign to the educational centre but thought it was a school room , but had not realised it had a bird hide with telescopes , perhaps they should say this on the signs and publize it more. It was great to see the flamingoes but we also went to the Hala Sultan Tekke salt lakes where there were more birds, clearly marked areas to park and walk and a much less industrialised place to watch the birds . Good to stop if in the area, but not the best bird viewing site

Visited Akrotiri today (24/2/20) to see the flamingos. We know we’re late in the season to see them as they’re soon migrating. The best view we had was from Akrotiri Environmental Education Centre which has a telescope to see Limassol Salt lake. Free admission and car park. I would describe this as a small ecology centre as there’s information about the local flora and forna, but only took 15 minutes to look around. We saw 12 flamingos swimming/walking by the side of the lake, great to see them in the wild but too far away for any photographs.
The Education centre can be found opposite the Swann pub before the army base checkpoint. You don’t need to show passports to visit the centre. From the B6 take the Kolossi castle turn on the F628 and continue on this road past the Alpha Sigma supermarket (watch your speed as there was a police speed trap). As you drive on you notice many radio masts and signs forbidding photos. As you drive on you notice the salt lake on your left. The centre is just up the road.

At the end of the road is the Lady mile which we didn’t do as the road runs out and you have to drive across the beach. No view of flamingos from there today. It was great to see them in their natural habitat in the wild.

Polecam centrum edukacyjne w Akrotiri, dzięki uprzejmym pracownikom zobaczyliśmy masy flamingów (przez pożyczone teleskopy) oraz zapoznaliśmy się z fauną i florą oraz życiem mieszkańców okolicy. Czynne też w styczniu. Chcieliśmy do tego zobaczyć wrak na morzu, ale teren zbyt podmokły oraz rąbały komary.

A pleasant drive along the shore on the way to St Nicholas of the Cats. We saw about 20 flamingos in the distance, but you can't really get closer. The area is spoiled slightly with all of the radio masts.

One of the best Flamingo sighting places in Cyprus. The educational centre is well equipped with modern facilities. Well worth a visit.

Będąc w okolicy Limassol nie można pominąć słonego jeziora. Posiadając samochód z nieco wyższym zawieszeniem skręciliśmy na drogę F628 i dotarliśmy do Akrotiri. Wioska jest bardzo zaniedbana, żyjąca chyba głównie z Brytyjczyków, którzy mają nieopodal bazę wojskową. W trakcie dalszej podróży asfalt po prostu się skończył, na drodze pojawiły się wyboje i po pewnym czasie wjechaliśmy na teren jeziora, które o tej porze roku zaczyna już chyba częściowo wysychać. Flamingów w zasięgu aparatu prawie nie było. Mieliśmy pokusę, by jechać dalej, ale dzielnie ją zwalczyliśmy i wróciliśmy tą samą drogą po sesji zdjęciowej.

Has anyone been to this Akrotiri lake? I am in Limassol right now and wonder if I should go to Akrotiri to see Flemingo. Are they still there?

Hi, have read that there is s 19mile cycle route around the lake. Is this true? Does anyone know if there routes or cycle hire nearby? Many thanks

Is it possible to visit the reserve by public transport ? We would like to visit in February . Another option would be a tour . We do not wish to hire a car and will be staying in Paphos.

The car is by far the best option and good rental deals will be available in Feb as it is out of season. It will allow to maximise your stay at the lake and adjoining Lady's Mile Beach.
There are bus services from Pafos that connect with other towns and if you make it to Lemesos then local services may get you closer. Then I suspect a fair walk to the lake shore at the Lady's Mile Beach side. From Lemesos I would anticipate a service to Akrotiri, and more walking. Bus info is available from the Pafos Bus Station near the harbour. Dependant on where you are staying, the hotels usually have dedicated staff to help with both car hire and other info. There is a Tourist Info Centre across the road from Starbucks on Poseidon Avenue in Kato Pafos. Hope this helps, it is definitely worth the visit and you do not need to be a 'twitcher' to enjoy the area.
