What I had never appreciated before doing some search on Aizu is that at one time there was a significant Christian population under the influence of the Christian feudal lord Ujisato Gamou. Christianity was subsequently banned by the Tokugawa military government but according to the tourism brochures of Aizu City some heritage could be found in the outskirts of the city. We went to one Christian graveyard in the middle of meadows.
