The gardens are unique and so beautiful. We visited when the rhododendrons were out and they were simply stunning. The Geological Gallery is informative & suitable for all ages. The tea rooms were very good. Delicious cakes and savoury pasties. Staff were very friendly & welcoming . There are many steps around this garden but can easily be navigated & there was always an alternative route where the steps were steep. Highly recommend.

Nice gardens with lots of corners and nooks. It is a pity that there are not enough seat scattered around for those needing one and not enough signs for directions when you are in the gardens. The brochure itself is not well done for directions. Parking on a bank holiday weekend is horrendous!

First visit to this lovely gardens. Oriental garden was closed which was a shame but all the other areas were lovely and a pleasant walk for a couple of hours. We will return to see closed areas later in year as I believe they are very impressive.

We visited as NT members (adult admission is £12 and amazingly for NT no car parking fee) . The house is privately owned, and so the garden had to work hard to entertain us - and it did. Laid out in a series of 'rooms' there are tunnels, twists and turns, a stumpery, a bright Chinese pagoda, a cottage and therefore a surprise around every corner. The planting was okay with a number of tulips and may be better at other times of year, but at the least it is a lovely place to explore for 1.5 hrs whether young or young at heart but best for a fine, dry day.

I've never been a fan of walking around gardens, but this garden is different. Lots of themes, novelties, buildings, tunnels etc. Lots to see.
It's best to go in the spring/summer when the flowers are in bloom, but it will be busy during the weekend. There is a huge car park, but again this fills very quickly at peak times.
Although the hall is still there and complete, you CANNOT go inside!
Worth a trip during a nice weekday to avoid the crowds (and kids).

It was an interesting garden: Some parts were closed for maintenance and the pagoda was being repaired - there were no bells: May have been wiser to go later in spring when all the Rhododendrons and azaleas are fully out! Not too disappointed with the visit as we used the Gardeners World 241 discount card so-our visit was £12 for 2 people. May go back later in the year when there is a bit more colour. Did not like being pressured into joining the NT if i wanted to join i would have asked!

The Admission fee, wasn't value for money. It was expensive, for what it was, thank goodness it didn't rain, as the main house was closed, even though it was Easter!
The Cafe was badly organized, people could only get in & out one way, which caused chaos, as there wasn't room to move properly.
Also the Children Lunch Boxes weren't already made up, which meant, you had to interrupt the queue, to go back to the open refrigerator & pick - what was left available, then you were charged extra, for any items, which were not covered in the price of £6.75, which you didn't know about, until you got back to the cashier!
The whole Cafe was badly organized & there was little choice!
We won't be going again!

We stayed in Congleton when visiting family and wanted to explore what was on our doorstep and were lucky enough to discover Biddulph Gardens! A national trust location located ten minutes away, its history and beautiful gardens were a great way to spend our last day up north. The café is lovely too - friendly staff and tasty, reasonably priced food for a stop gap on your way in or out of the gardens. The second hand book shop was also a favourite as I came away two books heavier. I was really pleased we visited and would come again if ever in the area.
One point knocked off for the renovation work taking place which meant the Japanese Gardens were closed (couldn't be helped but it would have contributed to the whole package for us personally!)

Quite apart from the fact that there was a fairy trail to follow when we visited in February half-term, the imaginative layout of these beautiful and extensive gardens make it a magical place. There are fresh sights around every corner. The snowdrops were beautiful. Our grandchildren (aged 4 and 5) had their minds kept off the length of the walk we took by the opportunities to clamber, climb, hide and balance. They entertained us with "We know the way to China, Grandma!" and "Look Grandad, we're in Egypt!" We adults enjoyed the planting and landscaping as we strolled and chatted. Even on ordinary woodland paths the children were entertained by the 'obstacle course' of stepping stones, balance beams, rope walkways and of course the fairies to spot in the trees.

We live not far from here and visit several times a year. There is always something to enjoy, even in the depths of winter, but of course, late spring/early summer is 'best'. The gardens are 'themed' and there is the first 'stumpery' ever planted in Britain. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and the café is very good.

Thank you for your helpful review! We will be coming up from London by train without car access. Can you recommend someplace not terribly far away from the garden to stay as we would like to visit on two consecutive days. We understand there is a bus from Stoke-on-Trent. Sorry I don't know. We stayed at The Vicarage, Cranage which isn't too far away but not sure if it's on a bus route. The Vicarage is superb - highly recommend

The bull is, in Chinese religions, a symbol of self realisation - stages of 'The Buddha mind - our real nature'; however, the fact that it is golden has roots in various other religions The bull was worshiped in most of the ancient world - Mr. Bateman was clearly fascinated in all religions, judging by the other statues at Biddulph, although deeply Christian himself.

My wife needs to use a walker/wheel chair much of the time as she cannot walk far & has difficulty with more than a couple of steps and going up long slopes. Reviews indicate that there is little access for such users in the gardens, the tea room & shop and even the disabled toilets (the tea room is said to have 7 steps & no ramp in one review). Is this correct?

As the house is built on a terrace above the gardens, there are numerous steps (not to mention getting to and through the follies).
