I have been here 3 times, reached the top twice. If you're going for the first time, do read this fully. One of the better treks on the outskirts of bangalore. The trek is roughly 3.9 kms uphill. (as per my smartwatch)
Tips:
*This is a steep beginner-Intermediate trek which may take a rough 1.5-2.5 hours uphill and 40-60 mins downhill based on your fitness level.
* Start early in the morning around 4 am if you wanna experience the best view.
Really good sports/trekking shoes are a *MUST . Slippers/sandals are going to make it really hard avoid em. Barefoot is also okay as long as you're confident and not doing it during the day time(the rock starts to get really hot aft 12pm)
*avoid during the rainy season. Few portions of the trek do get slippery n get fatal
*Carry sunscreen, energy bars, 2 litres of water, a powerbank, (don't keep hydrating yourself unless you really need to, it'll only slow you down) though you'll find vendors selling butter milk, water, juice etc atop. Keep your backpack light.
*Garbage bags are a must. Do not litter around this beautiful place. Carry your stuff all the way downhill
*Have breakfast at the bottom before you start. The Locals provide you really good home made food. Do not start on an empty tummy.
*There are white arrows painted on the rock to direct you, follow em all the way.
Beautiful trek, Sundays are usually crowded try going on a saturday. Haffun, Safe trekking and DO NOT LITTER.

We just went by the reviews that called it a great trekking experience. We were in for a mighty shock! For our kids under 12, this was such a huge challenge! And there are no sign boards to guide on the 2 different paths. We ended up climbing on the sheer rock instead of going the easier long route. You *must have* shoes with grip to climb here. All said and done, once we reached the Basava Temple, there was such a huge sense of accomplishment! The kids were super thrilled to have achieved this big challenge! The view is breath-taking :)

It's an excellent trek. Wear good shoes for better grip... Didn't expect this trek would turn very adventurous as I expected just like Nandi hills but no... It's just amazing.
Never play pranks like pulling or pushing ur friends while climbing otherwise it would turn the biggest mistake of life as there is high chance of risk falling to death....SO NO PRANKS.
But beautiful experience... I was visited on a cloudy day so the trek was a pure bliss.
Enjoy the "Rock" ing trek.

Distance:60km from Bangalore city
Monolith Rock Hill... Asia's Largest
Up hill climb :2hours
A moderate Trek for conditioned fitness lovers else a tough climb on all four
Risk of falling to death ofy not cautious
So friends in high spirits or fooling and pranking around..pls don't push your luck
It will not be funny if a mishap happens.
Be responsible and enjoy the lovely view and climb
I just love the smooth Rocky terrain and the old Temple and fort ruins

Go with water during climbing. If forget don't worry local people sels it after 7 to 8 clk u will get water and juice at top.
Please don't make mistake like pulling and pushing to friend During climb it may be your big mistake of life .

Good Place for a Weekend Trekking.Savandurga is a hill which is 48.4kms from Bangalore (via Mysore road) off magadi road. This is one of the largest monolith hills in Asia. The Arkavathi river passes nearby.

Me and two of children aged 18, 16 tried the mountain. It was rewarding experience after reaching to the top. View from Nandhi statue is beatiful. Along the way you will stop by have view on all sides. We carried two bottles of water and that was suffienct due to hot Sun. Hardly any trekkers, its mostly quiet. For older people and very young childern could challenging. While coming down, we saw herd of goats. And a mother goat gave birth to a calf, it was wonder for the kids to watch how the tiny goat walked around just after birth.

Had a wonderful experience of hiking till the summit. It's the most challenging trek I have had near Bangalore. Hydrate regularly and wear appropriate clothing and shoes. Take as many breaks as you want and you will eventually reach there.

We went there in the afternoon to give our 4 yr old son a dose of fresh air, sun light. We were not disappointed. The drive up to the place itself is beautiful. The temples near the foot of the hill are beautiful. The entrance to the trekking spot stinks a bit since the tourists haven't cared enough about the location.
The trek itself is very difficult. There are no stairs. However, the forest dept have clearly marked the pathway which is least difficult. We followed that and were able to climb upto some decent distance. We saw many climb upto the peak and get down.

How can one get to the Savandurga Monolith by bus from Bangalore? What does it cost? And when does the bus go?
I read that one can get to Magadi grom KR Market, and then have to take a car. Is it possible to get a car fast through Uber, or should I book somewhere in beforehand?

There are autos which ply from Magadi to Savanadurga. That should be sufficient.
